That's it for the weekend, they will resume driving next week as it seems. But I am sure they will "take the gloves off" then smile

From the reports on what's happening, they have been trialling different setups on each car and the drivers have been swapping between the two. Neither setup has so far been ideal throughout the track with one being good in some sections but not so good in others and the other being the opposite, which by the sounds of it is why they had another setup day today.

Update.

Looks like they have settled on a setup and road and track will be there Monday as witnesses.

day 6 at the track update from the team boss:

Day 6: Today was our day to make the run. We had the track to ourselves from 12 noon - 1PM local time. Unfortunately, it rained most of the day and the track was completely wet. We are in desperate need of additional track time and The Ring is sold out. The ONLY thing we can do for this week is to try to piggyback on a commercial being shot on Friday (which would keep us here longer than planned). So far the production company has said "no" but we continue to plead with them to buy a 15 minute slot. If that doesn't work, it appears that the only option we will have is to come back in August. There are two days, separated by 10 days, which may have 15 minute slots open. We are feverishly looking into that. Of course, having to return in August would annihilate our budget and we'll have to start a campaign for additional crowdfunding. I've never seen a track as booked as this one.
We will continue to drive in the Industry Pool for the next three days to tweak the set up of the cars (since we are here). I wish the Industry Pool allowed record runs and video recording, but due to the nature of the other cars on the track at the same time, they don't. Stay tuned, as soon as we know it, you'll know it. Thanks for all your support.

Can anyone on here vouch for the Kumo tyre they are using?

Have to be honest and say i've never heard of it. Any independent tests against the likes of Pirelli and Michelin?

For all we know the tyres, whilst a sponsor, could be slowing down the lap times.

The Kumho tyre was specifically developed for the Viper ACR so its exactly as it left the factory (well new ones fitted) which whilst could be slowing things down, which I doubt, is still within the expectations of a production car lap time. i.e no fancy special tires. well not ones that don't come fitted

Update from the team:

Day 8: After being here 8 days, we got our first lap today. The ACR-E turned at 7:03.45, right out of the box, which is either the second or third fastest production car lap ever recorded at The Ring, depending on whether you believe that the Lamborghini actually turned a 6:51 with no witnesses and irregularities in their video. We are supposed to get a second lap tomorrow, but it's difficult to be assured of anything until it actually happens. If it rains, we're once again sidelined. Dominik reports that he feels that there is a sub 7:00 lap in the car. Trust me when I say that we are doing everything that we can. If we were to return in August, we would need to crowdfund at least another $50,000 for the unplanned expenses. I'm interested in how the Viper Nation feels about that. By the way, "Road & Track" was blown away. I would say they "get it."

History lesson
Just so everyone is clear about the cars.

These are stock ACR Vipers that you can currently buy off the forecourt in dealerships across the USA.

Rumours and speculation about the term GTSR is nothing to do with the Performance or modifying of the 2017 ring cars, its simply that the cars Colour scheme is a hommage to the old racing GTS-Rs from the 1990s

Dodge in 1998 Produced 100 White with Blue stripes coloured cars and badged the cars GTS-R, they were a homage to the race program and had a Blue coloured Shift knob and a Blue and Black two tone interior. They also had smooth intake tubes between the air intake and throttle bodys. Each car came with a Kodak throw away camera, at each stage of production the assembly team took a picture of themselves adding a part to the car, the car left the factory with a couple of spare pictures, one picture was to be taken at the dealership with the owner being handed the keys to his new car and the other picture was for the owner to take a picture of the car in his /her garage at home. The camera was then returned to Dodge where they produced two copies of the pictures, one set of prints went to the new owner and the other set of prints were kept by the factory. If you wanted to buy one of these limited edition cars, Dodge listed these cars as a GT2 gts-r on the order book. smile

Here is a Picture of the team and actual old race cars in the 1990s

This is the ROAD Car in homage to those cars
the 1998 GT2 gts-r

The Ring vipers are Painted in the same colours, that's it, Nothing else. wink

My favourite car right there. I had a video tape when I was a kid all about the Viper (up to gen 2). I now have it on DVD as well! They talked about the GTS-R and the photos. Love it.

Of course the irony being the ring vipers look more like race cars than the 90's racers, probably have a bigger wing and splitter and way more HP and quite possibly quicker too, yet you can take them to Tesco's for your shopping and they fit the colour scheme of a value race car

Fantastic - if that's how the factory think, then the enthusiasm the owners obviously have for Vipers makes more sense. My only Viper experience is limited to Gran Turismo on a PlayStation, and I couldn't do anything with it except spin off at every corner frown

So they've blown 160k of donated money to do one lap that was about 12 seconds off the pace and now need another 50k minimum to give it another go?

Could you have done it cheaper? They've spent the money on what they were supposed to do & went 9 seconds slower than the Lamborghini (whos lap is hotly disputed) after one proper run good on them.
