On the other hand I could buy a Golf and chuck money at it i now learn.. mmmm..

No thanks. One option is a hugely talented icon, the other is a VW Golf.
No matter how much you polish that turd it's still going to be a VW golf.

It's still an ugly brute, though.
Imagine how they'd have sold if they made it pretty.

There are at least 10-15 Golf Rs in the wild in the UK at the moment running -- with full reliability for the past 6-12 months -- around the 500-550bhp mark.

Even if the engine and turbo blew once a year for 10 years in a row (extremely unlikely), it would still be cheaper than the Nismo driving

Here is a Golf R doing 10.8 seconds on the quarter-mile, which is roughly the same as a 2017 Nismo...

Or you could buy a Subarevo for a fraction of the price of a golf and achieve the same thing.

Great cars, that feel special in the way they drive. £150k worth? Who knows, but I suspect the 25 or so coming to the UK will sell.

Nissan realised they sold the first version of it far too cheaply at £120000 as they were selling over list straight away and even now are still £130000 to £145000 when they come up for sale, so they have priced this right and made a bit of the profit for themselves instead of the speculators getting it...

It will hold its value if not rise a bit so a good investment...

What do they do to it that warrants another seventy grand !
In terms of styling they made the front end look like a love (?!) child born from an Audi and a Toyota.

In other news the price won't be too high for those who want one and can afford it. However you have to wonder if buyers are those already hooked on this drug rather than conquest sales.

Personally having experience of both I'd still have the Porsche over the Nissan
So would I with only 911 Turbo experience.

Pound for pound the GTR is a performance bargain as is a 911 turbo 2nd hand.
Have one for a year and move on to something else because you won't lose much in depreciation on either in one year!

So an informed opinion then? The 911T is a very bland drive in comparison.

I've driven a modded 640bhp 911 turbo 997 which looked a bit bland front end but was license losing quick.
Have also driven a 600bhp GTR and enjoyed that too. Both are just very capable, maybe as you said bland could be applied to both cars.

I had a standard GTR a few years back and that was a pretty bland drive, but not as bland as a 911T. The Nismo is a significantly different car to drive. Steers better, turns in better, can be edgy, the noise, and whilst subjective, the looks.

You're missing several points not least that the ownership experience has many facets.

I was comparing the NISMO in the OP to the 911 Turbo I owned which wasn't bland at all, and I'd bet a shilling on the side you haven't driven that car either so your comment was also uninformed.

Worst of all, having spent that amount I'd have to look at the NISMO every time I walked out to drive it and putting on / taking off a blindfold would become tedious after a short time.

I've driven a 996, 997 and 991 turbo.

Owned a 997GT2 - which I also thought was st.

Maybe throw some facts out rather than conjecture.

Where's the conjecture - the 911T I drove wasn't bland, and I still say you haven't driven it.

What the farquhar has any fact got to do with this - buying cars that we want but don't need is essentially a personal and emotional choice, owning and driving a car is a subjective experience also. My blistering pick-up is somebody else's pain in the neck, their ride quality is my handling problem etc.

It's sounding more and more like you live in some sort of Top Trumps World rather than the real world. Which is fine, if that's what's important to you in terms of your cars, but others will take a different view without being 'wrong' in any absolute sense.

It's a fact as far as I'm concerned that the NISMO in the OP is pig ugly and that alone would put me off buying a car I would want but never need. I wouldn't want it!

It seems we disagree on what car(s) we could see ourselves buying, that's all and it's not a surprise that different PHers have different tastes.

I can only add that I wish you great enjoyment now and in future in whatever cars do it for you!

I'll drink to that, and even buy you a blindfold so you might actually try a GTR at some point.

Obviously neither of you tried a modified Golf R. I'm sure if you had the whole 911T/GTR debate would be irrelevant as you would pick neither and have the family hatchback instead wink

I think you could be onto something there... wink

OT but the Golf CS is supposed to be good.

Not been in one personally but yeah I've read/heard the same. Nothing wrong with the Golf R when it's in context, brother-in-law has one and it's a very decent car. I wouldn't call it special though and to be fair neither would he, it's just a very competent all rounder which is perfect for most. I've always preferred the Megane's from a driving point of view but I don't think I could completely ignore the all round ownership proposition of the VW.

I'll ask Eric Mc at the appropriate time smile he's getting on for 90.

That's 90k posts, not 90 years, at least I think so wink

If the PH payment system doesn't increase the payment then Eric will sound the alarm...
