Jay Leno's show is a slow burner
I like the Jay Leno programme, however only where its a car I'm interested in, and where it's evident that he likes the car and owner.

Favourite one recently was the Plymouth Superbird episode owned by some comedian guy. Both people gelled and Jay was obviously loving the car.

There was one I recall from some Porsche house where the guy used to work for Singer. The cars were nice and I was really interested in them, but the bloke running the company was a bit of a cock, and Jay took out his dislike of the bloke on the cars.

He sometimes finds it hard to detach himself from being a multimillionaire owner of hundreds of cars, when someone brings on their one and only pride and joy.

Car SOS is a great show, that's really entertaining, however it can become tiresome to watch the weekly staged visits where they "blag parts for nothing", or the concocted last minute panic to meet the release deadline. The fact that most car unveilings miss a drive on the road shows that getting an MOT isn't on the list of activities to present the car.

Mike Brewer is utterly cringworthy, and only Ed China saves Wheeler Dealers. He's obviously a good mechanic, and I like his "repair rather than bin" approach to mending used cars, however some projectsts leave a lot to be desired ..... One project had a Porsche 928 that he took a lump hammer to the aluminium brake caliper to remove FFS!!!

The back story is bearable. No harm in trimming it to the bare essentials but it’s a relatively small part of the show. What is depressing is the staged fannying about of the tall bloke. His inane antics make you think the show is actually aimed at utter cretins. What sort of punter finds that sort of low brow panto crap remotely entertaining?

Fuzz Townshend has recently started a car restoration business. Used to be a writer for Practical Classics too so I imagine he is very capable.
And he's also a bus mechanic and drummer for indy band Pop Will Eat Itself (PWEI)

Wasn't he in Bentley Rhythm Ace too?

No wonder people are so happy to receive £50k worth restoration, which they are presumably free to do whatever they like with afterwards. I'd be crying too. I'd save them the bother though and just take a cheque....
You want to watch the follow up program where they re-visited cars they had done, the UR Quattro owner piece was particularly touching.

It drives me up the bloody wall. It’s time that could be used to show work on the car but I guess that might make the show unsellable.

I dont mind it, as risible as some of it is, it is part and parcel of what is a pretty good watch, good detail and some great tips, am glad its on, many a happy Saturday morning nursing a hangover ploughing through them,

Going to get the missus to write in to see if they will do the few remaining jobs and a bit of paint on my TT, I do have a bit of a sore foot at the moment as justification.

Note to all makers of TV car do it up series, or those that build choppers, perhaps set a realistic deadline or start two weeks earlier as the rush to the reveal just irks the crap out of the viewer and we are thinking its rushed and badly finished, it doesnt add drama, car restoration is a slow process, it should be lingered over and done properly, not a mad dash to do some half arsed "reveal", film the bit where you tell the owners it being done and say it will be done when its done and dont mither !

But Why? I’m sure the presenter doesn’t go around in real life lying and stealing so why make that all up and put trying to rip people off in a show that’s meant to be about helping people? It just seems a very very odd part of the show. It’s a nice resto for a good cause the whole faking ripping off of suppliers just doesn’t seem to fit?

Exactly the point. If PH was the target audience for any car show, it would be dead in the water financially - or be forced to be as low-rent (in production values) as A Car is Born.

Don't care, not interested. There are a million other TV programmes where I could get my heart-rending emotional fix.

Fuzz seems to take pride in doing it right the other guy comes across as an idiot, I believe he's passionate about the cars if he fust showed that rather than the stupid antics I think the programme would step up a notch.

I understand though that he was the drummer long after they were at their peak?

I agree. Those artificial last-minute deadlines don't add any drama or tension. Spoils an otherwise good show.

One thing I have realised recently is that there is a market for a property nuts and bolts car show made for car enthusiasts. With wheeler dealers new patronising monkey and the lanky bafoon on car sos I have had enough. I don't care if he's had a hard time just get on and tell us about the car. Don't cut to a break and then remind me about what I just saw 5 minutes ago when you come back on air.

Will some one in the TV industry listen and make a proper car show. Every car enthusiast in the UK is dieing for it.
