A rare Nissan Sunny GTR

I like it,cos it's orange.
More likely an imported Pulsar, still relatively rare these days but I expect a UK Sunny GTR to be more scarce.

Like that.

None for sale on PH Classifieds though! It's on AMs website, but no specs on engine etc.

https://www.astonmartin.com/en/cars/lagonda

What's the deal with the car? Utterly bespoke 1 off every time?
IIRC they were originally intended for the Middle East only but there has been sufficient interest for AML to broaden the car's markets to Include the US and Europe. They're saying 200 maximum will be built. So yes, fairly bespoke even by Aston's standards.

I can't remember if they were actually half decent. Opinions on them as a 'Car' ?
I'm not pretending that "a journalist said it so it must be true" but in this case I think he got pretty close:

David Vivian in Autocar said:
It was pretty quick and made all the right noises too. Plus it went round corners like there was no tomorrow. I remember driving up to Scotland in one with photographer Peter Burn and having an absolute riot behind the wheel. Up to that point, I’d never driven a car that attacked twisting roads with so much passion and so little roll. There was a directness and honesty to the way it went that exactly mirrored its appearance.
David Vivian again a few years later said:
It wasn’t just the music of the V6 or the race car precision of the 75-derived chassis. Nor the car’s amazing grip or its ability visually to upstage Ferraris and Porsches. It was the SZ’s startling presence and sense of connectedness: as sharp as a razor, direct as an electric shock, startling as a slap round the chops. Since that first memorable drive from Kent to Inverness I’ve driven better cars but none that has worked over my sensibilities so completely.

The 720s looks so menacing! cool

That Lagonda is an awfully under-rated car IMO. It is a very cool thing.

Have to agree on the 720S.... beginning to like it, just as everyone said I would.
Th Lagonda is gigantic smile

I was about to sell my old V8 Vantage. Having seen Aston's deliberate move upmarket in terms of pricing, I think I'm going to hang onto it a bit longer.

Aston in the mid 00s used to be somewhere around where Porsche are now- a sub-Ferrari/Lamborghini sports car brand doing nice things at less money than the Italians wanted. Vantage was bit less reliable and less good to drive, but better looking and more charismatic than the 911. DB9 - cheaper than the Ferrari V12 by quite some way, but more exotic than a Jag XKR.

Those times are changing, it seems.

I think these Lagonda's are pretty much bespoke vehicles.

Is the cost of the new Vantage not pretty competitive with the v8 Ferrari?

The 70s version was blindingly expensive too. I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t far off the same price with inflation is taken into account.

Cheaper still, but more expensive than a cooking 911 I think. There's no really "baby" Aston anymore.

According to multiple sources cited in the wiki page, they supposedly stopped making them at the end of 2016 with around 150 having been made. That said - I am sure that they will have kept the tooling and I'd be surprised if they couldn't knock one up for a special customer.

Huge things though. I didn't expect to like it, but when I saw one in person I was actually pretty enamoured with it. Infinitely nicer to look at than the 80s Lagonda predecessor. Rarity will also ensure that it will always be cooler that Rolls, Merc and so on too.

Wouldn’t that be like buying a Vantage over a one-77?

I like a rapide but it’s not even the same size or segment.

i know it's a bit of a weird statement. Maybe I am making too many assumptions about peoples' economic status, but if we are creating hypothetical scenarios where we can afford a Rapide but not a Lagonda, why not just pretend to be a billionaire and have both?

Just in terms of everyday use in the real world a Rapide is probably a better option. Although I highly doubt someone splashing out on a Lagonda cares whether they do 4k or 40k miles a year.

Better for what though? An adult can't really travel in the back of a Rapide comfortably. Why do people buy a Panamera when you can have a 911?

I have always failed to "get" the Rapide and the Panamera. I would buy a used Rangie and a Vantage/911. Sports Car for hooning on my own. Big barge for family trips. I wouldn't want a compromised car to perform both roles.

Perhaps if I only had garage space for one car, I'd consider one.

Personal opinion. YMMV.

On the top maybe, but I've been reliably informed that the platform and running gear are carried over from the Rapide.

Dammit.

Thought that was a proper Brabus, but, sadly, P600 PEN comes back as a S320 CDI

No pictures but in that instance it really should belong in the Badly Modified Cars thread.
