....is there a benefit to getting an MOT if there’s no requirement to?
My guess would be it's a relatively cheap way to get a car checked over, up on the ramps, have a poke about underneath, brake test, suspension looked at, emissions and for £40ish, it's got to be cheaper than a hours labour at your local classic car 'specialist'. raceboy said:

An MOT just means you met the requirements to have the car checked annually, not that the car is roadworthy all the time the certificate is valid.
If a car has a fault making it in roadworthy , then it needs to be fixed regardless of when your MOT is.
As the car doesn't need an MOT then the fail is not a problem.
That's why a failed MOT doesn't trump your old MOT if it still less than a year old.

The thought that somebody who runs a 250 California would use some grubby backstreet MOT merchant as an early warning system for impending issues just to save £50 is as amusing as it is horrifying.deckster said:

Admittedly in that specific example I would imagine money isn't that much of an issue, but the owner of a £2k Spitfire or other such 'cheap classic' might view their finances slightly different. Greg the Fish said:

Google is your friend, friend.
I can read. I'm also well aware that there is a search engine called google. Greg, you're absolutely right, it sure is a "WTF is That???" car.
