....is there a benefit to getting an MOT if there’s no requirement to?
My guess would be it's a relatively cheap way to get a car checked over, up on the ramps, have a poke about underneath, brake test, suspension looked at, emissions and for £40ish, it's got to be cheaper than a hours labour at your local classic car 'specialist'. scratchchin

Qualifies? That's on par with the California just up the page. Absolutely stunning motor! Great spot!

That's definitely the reason I intend to get mine looked at regularly. I can look at the rest (though there's nothing better than a fresh pair of eyes for noticing things I haven't) but I can't test brake balance, and if it deteriorates gradually it can go un-noticed.

That all makes sense for the cost of an MOT, appreciate your answers!

Out of interest, if it fails the MOT does that mean it is no longer legally roadworthy (as it doesn't need an MOT) - i.e. could you drive it away from an MOT failure and drive around for a few months while you fix the faults? Or is the car off the road until the faults are rectified?

Definitely didn't expect to spot a Rally Fighter in a car park in Basildon this week.

Having an MOT and a car being roadworthy we two different things.

An MOT just means you met the requirements to have the car checked annually, not that the car is roadworthy all the time the certificate is valid.

If a car has a fault making it in roadworthy , then it needs to be fixed regardless of when your MOT is.

As the car doesn't need an MOT then the fail is not a problem.

That's why a failed MOT doesn't trump your old MOT if it still less than a year old.

The thought that somebody who runs a 250 California would use some grubby backstreet MOT merchant as an early warning system for impending issues just to save £50 is as amusing as it is horrifying.

Admittedly in that specific example I would imagine money isn't that much of an issue, but the owner of a £2k Spitfire or other such 'cheap classic' might view their finances slightly different. wink

Then one must ask, why did you ask what it was? Anyway, let's not get this thread cluttered up with what this exchange of ever-more aggressive keyboard warrioring would inevitably turn into.

The internet's got a lot to answer for, we used to have these discussions down the pub and it was pretty obvious what people meant when you were 2 feet away from them (0.60m for the younger viewers), even when you were pissed....

A) great spot
B) kudos for identifying it! Never even heard of it. It's certainly...different.
