i fail to see how 40k for a skoda is fantastic VFM
Well, can you point out all the other spacious, well-equipped, reliable estates that do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, can tow 2 tonnes and cost less than £40k? Oh, and you can get £6 or 7K of list price, so they don't cost £40K anyway...Dave Hedgehog said:
golf R estate for a start and broadspeed will sell you a new S4 Avant for 39k or a 140i for 27k
Golf R is quite a bit smaller inside and if you even can spec it up to the superb levels it won't be as cheap thenS4 avant will be bare spec at that price and having owned many Audis you really do have to add a few options to get the car you really want.
M140i is not type approved for towing and is nowhere near as big inside (I should know I own one!)
I very nearly went for the superb but once I decided I didn't need the space I felt the 140 bettered iton all other counts (for me, not looking to get into a vs debate )

Drive The Deal quote £35k on the nose for this exact spec car, so, having used them before and knowing how competitive they are, is like to know how Coast2Coast getting another £5k off the list price?
New Car Discount and Broadspeed, both have the L & K 280 Estate at just over £30K so it looks like Drive The Deal just aren't very competitive on this model....Dave Hedgehog said:

'base spec' S4 is unsurprisingly better equipped than the Skoda. Heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors as standard for example. It is a noticeably smaller car than the Superb, though, and list price is £10K more.
Looks good. Be wary of the engine - I'm just having mine replaced on a Mk2 Octavia vRS (the majority at Skoda's cost, to their credit.)
I couldn't help but chuckle at what you pay for in the options, however!
£600 for virtual pedal - eh? I'll offer you thin air for £450, guv'nor! (I'll confess, I have no idea what this feature really is.)
£20 for waste bin in door panel - £20 for fresh air! (I jest, I realise that this will require more material to manufacture, although I do think that it's a bit silly that this isn't standard).

If it comes in that spec then you'll soon have to pay the whacking new tax on £40k plus cars.
So ditch the front-seat ISOFIX, space saver spare wheel and something else that cost £90 and you've come in just under £40,000 and you can buy the space saver wheel from the parts counter once you've got the car.

Fantastic juxtaposition to big bloaty SUVs but that Thule looks like it can only carry a super models very thin bacon butty.....
Get something more chunky on it.
You'd be absolutely amazed at how much it holds (we certainly were). It's like a black hole for exhibition equipment, which reminds me... we must check it at some point to see if we left that work experience lad in there as no one has seen him for ages Get something more chunky on it.

There's a fair amount of difference between the current 2.0 TSI and the mk2's TFSI lump. There's quite a lot that's the same too, mind.
I think that mine's early TSI. It's the facelift with a cam-chain. (The lifetime component that isn't.)I had a quartz grey L&K 280, and it was hands-down the best all-round car I've ever had - and I've had some far pricier motors both before and since.
Unfortunately it met an untimely end with just over 4k on the clock due to a lorry driver not seeing me at a merge point. This is what it looked like afterwards:
