Hi all,

I'm having a nightmare! Car tax due for renewal tomorrow and I've just gone to do it online. I never had a renewal letter come through, and I cannot find a V5C anywhere... My paperwork is all pretty organised and if it isn't in the car or in my filing cabinet it probably doesn't exist...

My concern is that as I never received a reminder in the post I'm now thinking that when I bought my car (a year ago to the day) there is a chance that something went awry and it was never registered in my name or something?! Got it used from an official dealership.

Any ideas on what to do next?! I'll phone the dealers first thing but not sure what they will know.

Thank you!!!

Have you got the green slip part of the V5 ?? you can use this to tax and it would get you a replacement V5 without
paying the fee ...

If the dealership is open tomorrow I would be popping in to see them

To get a new v5 you'll need to use form v62. It takes a few weeks. See here https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-and-us...

Therotecially if the dealership still own it then they should be able to tax it for you to cover things until you get the new v5.

However you can tax it yourself at the post office with a completed v62 anyway http://www.postoffice.co.uk/vehicle-tax-faqs

Thank you very much!

Dealership opens at 0830 so I'll ring them then and then walk in to town to the post office...

I feel quite stupid that, firstly, I left it so late to tax it (been away with work) and secondly that I never noticed the V5 hadn't arrived. Lesson learned. There's also the chance it did arrive and I have lost it which would be equally stupid, but wouldn't explain the lack of a reminder.

Stick the reg into vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk - if it says "this vehicle may be taxed at a post office without the V5" at the bottom it's still "with trade" i.e. The garage never sent off the document

Do an online tax check and see when the last tax ran out.

OP did you ever get to the bottom of what had happened with your V5 and tax reminders?

.....he's probably forgotten that he started this thread. Can't remember whether he received the V5. Or if he did, what he might have done with it ! Good god, it was only a year ago not 10 years ago !
