Now that 99% of the MK1/MK2 Mondeos have followed their traditional Ford path into scrapyards through excessive rust, you start to miss seeing their duct taped bumpers.

I'd like to propose the Vauxhall Insignia and their missing front badges as their replacement. What makes it even more impressive is that it exposes the Opel badge underneath.

Here are a few examples:

You probably won't see these that often as an insignias default position is two inches away from your rear bumper.

I'm sorely missing the circa 2002 Ford Galaxy blank Ford boot badge.

Pleased to see someone else has spotted this. Even my other half notices it now.

I also get a feeling of satisfaction at a Mk1 Yaris with a dented lower rear bumper.

Give it a few years and they will fall off to reveal a lion underneath.

I think i read on here a few weeks ago it was the heat from the front of the car melting the glue that held on the badge. Am i also right in thinking Vauxhall wouldnt fix it either.

Saw an insignia with missing badge yesterday. Didn't realise it was such a common phenomenon.

Yep, everywhere. Vectras and before had the badge as an integral part of the grille (along with the 'V-grille' chrome-ish styling feature rather than the straight bar on Opel versions), but to save money on producing a unique grille for the Insignia, the badge was glued on. No kidding. GM cheapening at its worst

This was a good study into the Mondeo phenomenon:
http://www.jack-frost.co.uk/mondeo_gaffer_tape.htm...

And this comment always makes me laugh:

"

When I took my gaffa-adorned mondeo for it's mot, he advisory note said 'it has been noted that a temporary repair has been made to the bumper with tape' and I thought come on mate, we both know that's not temporary.

Have given up getting new bumpers. Am now looking for blue gaffa tape

Lol, I do miss the duct tape bumpers but even more I miss the aerodynamically unstable intact bumper flexing back and forth around the exhaust cut out that led to all those taped bumpers in the first place smile

Not as common as BMWs (2000s) with missing headlight washer jet caps. They shoot off after freezing in the winter hehe
