Thanks guys, there is a Halfords in town, so will see if they have some.
Just tried find adblue.com, my nearest station is 11 Miles away, only 1 station in the whole of Bristol listed!
If only we had the option of having a nice simple Petrol engines in this country
We by an IBC of it which is 1000 litres and they are about 300 quid. If you got friendly with a farmer or haulier, they would be buying it in IBC's or larger quantities and could sell you some for very little. I saw some in Tesco that was hysterically expensive. Just tried find adblue.com, my nearest station is 11 Miles away, only 1 station in the whole of Bristol listed!

Most BP, Shell and Esso garages have it these days in 10L containers, usually just outside the kiosk along with the screenwash and disposable BBQs etc. Just tried find adblue.com, my nearest station is 11 Miles away, only 1 station in the whole of Bristol listed!

It's not the cheapest around, at £1-1.20/l, but certainly cheaper than the likes of Halfords.
Why are people so stupid as to try to avoid a little bit of expense for AdBlue? It's even worse when people remove DPFs. The fact is that the Labour government persuaded us all to buy diesels becasue they output less CO2 by reducing the tax, but diesels need DPFs to prevent their putting out large quantities of carcinogenic soot and AdBLue to reduce their NOx output. The more people neglect these on diesels as they age, the more likely it is that government will increase charges for use of the cars or even ban them.

As i understand it, AdBlue is the next level of cleaning system after DPF, but i believe some current cars can still be sold with DPF but many are switching to additives as i believe they reduce the emissions further than filters.
No quite, the two systems have quite different functions. A DPF is purely to catch particulates (soot) and has no effect on Nitrogen Dioxide (NOx) emissions. ADBlue works with a catalyst (SCR) to break down NOx to nitrogen and water vapor, and doesn't help with particulate emissions.caelite said:
Should also point out, be careful how long you keep barrels of Adblue for, they only have a 6 month or so shelf life so you can't just keep a tub of it in the van just in case. When they go off the urea seperates and solidifies into big clumps which bugger the system if you try to run it through.
If that's the case, if a cars left sitting for 6+ months surely that stuff is going to have degraded into a horrendous state?Worrying
With regards to the shelf life, I had a bit of a google and found this:
Does AdBlue have a shelf-life?
Provided that it is kept in the optimal conditions — out of direct sunlight and at a temperature between -6°C and 25°C — your AdBlue can last up to 18 months in storage. If you store it at a higher temperature than this or in a vented container, the shelf-life will only be around 6 months.
from here: https://www.rix.co.uk/blog/2016/7/adblue-what-dies...
Quite interesting, but I think someone leaving their new-ish vehicle for more than 18 months (I can't see a car's adblue tank being much above or below the temps here in the UK regularly...) is unlikely. Although something to consider at least

The machine I am set on now is 3 years old and has used 899 litres of urea without a single issue.

Very timely thread, my 4 month old C220D which is now on 12,500 miles was saying 1,000 miles of Adblue remaining. I had no idea how large the tank was but managed to use all 3.5 litres of the stuff I bought from the petrol station and the range has only increased to 1,800 miles.
If it's anything like my Audi you need to add at least 5.5 litres for the sensor to reset properly. My tank is 17l but I fill 10l at a time because that's the size of container you can buy fairly cheaply and conveniently from VW (about 130p / litre).10l gets me about 5000 miles or so.
This;

costs me around £10 from here;

I seem to recall noticing them on Morrison's forecourt as well.
My Tiguan's saying it's got 1300 miles left but I'm hoping topping that up is part of the 'Oil & Inspection Service' it's booked in for tomorrow. ;-)

Thanks, I got bored of waiting for Inchcape Mercedes to call me back so pressed the button in the car that calls MB direct. Apparently the tank can be up to 25 litres in capacity so sounds like I need to buy some more! Thankfully it's a company car but it's a shame that the tank doesn't seem to hold enough AdBlue to last until the first service in 3,000 miles time.
Dealer will do it free for a year, although appreciate that may no be convenient.25 litre tank is huge - it's 12 in wife's Tiguan. VW originally said it would last between services but soon changed their minds on that. In reality it's 4-5000 miles. I just drop 5 litres in every now and then.

It's not included. They *might* mention it if the warning is showing. Ours wasn't, although the level would have been fairly low I guess they have no idea and didn't mention it.Edited by Sheepshanks on Wednesday 5th April 15:03
We sell it and you get 10% off with the code PISTON
