Even if you ignore the exterior styling (which to be honest I don't mind) there are quite a few terrible mistakes elsewhere with simple design elements.
The rear seats are far too low and provide zero support for the thighs - I was genuinely shocked how bad they were when I sat in them.
The arm-rests on the front seats have the pivot point far too low such that they're utterly useless. As a result you end up using the centre cubby box as an armrest instead. Very poor design in my opinion.
The 'event platform' is utterly useless.
The boot lid is a pain in the arse in multi storey car parks with the spoiler rising quite high.
Despite all that I suspect a D5 will end up being my next car as the Q7 is even uglier and the XC90 only comes in a 2.0 litre diesel. And none of them are anywhere near as capable off road.

I'm afraid most 4x4s come across as MPVs these days, which is coincidentally how most "S"UVs live their lives.
Mind you, it's quite a tricky design challenge to make something not either look like an MPV on stilts or a lardy estate on stilts.

Front end looks ok, if you like the standard LR thing, but from the B pillar back, it looks like it has elephantitis and bloody ugly.
Think LR maybe need to get the photocopier looked at as the 'enlarge' function only seems to work for half the drawings, the lurches into 'catoonise'. Maybe speak to Audi about borrowing theirs.

I haven't seen one but my old father is almost as disappointed as this thread would appear to be about the D5.
And he's an old boy who really wants to accommodate all six of his grandchildren, drive up and down gravel or unploughed roads in winter, or swing by the airport to pick us up in one shot, and then go home and hook up the boat trailer and pull the boat up the slipway for a bit of light jet washing for a couple of hours. But possibly not all in one day.
I think he might get the new XC90, which is probably a better bet for the roady stuff, with all of its safety features. I only fear that he'll get stuck. In which case I'll have to come and get him in the old D3.

Maybe not the thread but let's face it the Land Rover had to be renamed Defender because people were confused with the number of models. Now it's rather sad, IMHO, that they have to point out styling cues in order to help distinguish one model from another, now that Range Rover and Discovery are brands rather than models. What will they rename the (full fat) Range Rover, or maybe they think they have with SV Autobiography Dynamic. Almost as clumsy as the Mazda Friendee Bongo Econowagon Spear Fisher.
