I apologize if there is an already existing thread about this, but which cars do you all think will start appreciating in the near future?

My bet is on the MK1 St170 Focus and on the MK2 MR2 as prices seem to be rock bottom at the minute and I think they'll be considered classics in the near future.

What do you think? biggrin

Not convinced that there was much clamour for the ST170 when it was new so unlikely to be in demand in future. The later Volvo engined Focus ST in unmodified form may be a good bet however as will any of the RS badged Focuses.

Another bet will be manual gearboxed versions of cars where the vast majority have been sold with automatics.

It's been covered pretty extensively here

The general consensus is '90s Japanese cars as the Gran Turismo generation start to earn more money. Supra, Skylines, RX-7s etc. Has started already but more to come.

Lotus Esprit/Elise/Exige

TVR - any

Most N/A manual sports cars

Plenty more

Early 986 Boxster, one with low mileage, FPSH and decent spec and in a sensible colour combination. I'm sure these will go up in value the same way 996's have been.

Definitely not a st170... But the mk1 focus rs and the mk2 are silly money now smile

E36 M3 is bound to go the way of the E30 price wise, no?

As mentioned before, the Porsche 996 will become a future classic for sure.
The prices are allready rising!
I remember having been laughed at before, and from some still am, for saying so...

But as with all cars to be regarded as classics, they need to be the rigth spec and unmolested!

I have a 106 GTi, 205 GTi, 306 GTi and a 986 Boxster.

I can't imagine that any price rises over the next 5 years would ever offset the cost of keeping a car in good order so that somebody would actually want to buy it at their potentially increased price.

Buy a car, drive it, enjoy it.

Manual N/A Porsche 911's.

Drove a 911 for the first time last week, Carrera 4 S.. albeit it was PDK and not 2WD (from what I have read that is the better version of the drivetrains?), it was still absolutely brilliant, pity I can't afford one! I had driven a Cayman S before and thought it was good, but the 911 having an extra 100bhp made all the difference.

Elise 111S S2; the last of the completely analogue sports cars - unservoed brakes, unassisted steering, manual transmission. No t/c, ABS or 'settings'; just direct mechanical connection.

People from the future will gasp at how it was all possible...
