£30k for a 9 year old E63?

Deap pockets and brave pills required.
I've got one of these that will be ten years old this year. It's one of the cheapest cars to run I have ever had

Lovely idea, but I'm not sure I'd put my daughter in what is effectively the car's crumple zone... Have MB found a way to address that concern in any way, or is it tough luck on the kids if something rear ends your vehicle?

From a man who survived a childhood sliding around the load bay of his dad's Transit on an unattached small sofa...hehe
Interesting question - well it is to me anyway.

IMHO MB lead the way for 7 seats with the GLS (and I'm a BMW fan). Key thing for me is that the third row is NOT behind the rear axle, but rather over it, as I understand that the crumple zone generally stops at that point. And there's decent legroom for the third row as well, meaning space to be pushed forward into in the event of a rear end.

It is of course, a vast SUV, and over 3 times the price of the E55 above, but on the upside, there is at least an AMG version with silly horsepower. And it's a lot more appealing than a VW Caravelle.
Interesting answer, thank you. I wonder if the crumple zone counts if you're not enclosed by it... but then, you could argue in that way that no rear seat passenger in an estate or hatchback is if this doesn't count as "enclosed".

So, kids, if you see something approaching the Merc quickly from behind, tuck your legs in. wink

Having had a couple of these cars now, the seats are right on top of the rear axle and there's a good few feet of crumple zone between them and the rear of the car. It's a very strong part of the car.

I've had two 63's & no head bolt issues, my dad had an N/A CL63 & again no issues, my CLK would have had one of the early engines I've never even bothered having it checked. How common is it really?

30k?! Wow, that's keen!

I paid £16k for one last year, albeit with 84k miles, 7 seats, but much higher spec. designo paint, designo headlining and designo active seats. Distronic cruise and other toys.
Bloody brilliant thing - it's not stupid fast by modern standards, but keeps up with most stuff. It makes me grin every time I press that keyless-go button. 24mpg on a run too. Of course the great PH disapproval society will say I've ruined it with resonator delete, daft wheels and lows, but beauty is in the eye etc. and I am the lucky beholder.

30k... Ha!

p.s. Does anyone actually know someone who had headbolt issues, or have you just read it somwhere?
I know there have been a few isolated cases of headbolt failure, but there are tens of thousands of these M156 engines worldwide, and only a very small handfull have had the issue.
Slippy gearboxes on the other hand...

285 25 20 on the rear smile - it still rides surprisingly smoothly.

It has tyres ?

Does look saucy though !

The head bolt think is perhaps overstated but it is a possibility, best to know it may be an issue.

Yeah I think so, in the Merc world. W212 and the new w213 e63 didn't / won't have the 7 seat option.

Great cars but just to agree with everyone else that is about 10k too expensive. UP you did well for 16k, not entirely sure about the wheels/tyres but its a minor thing.
My 55 estate is an absolute family favourite. Goes like the clappers, drinks a bit, absorbs everything you want to put in it. If I can find a way a 5.5 biturbo in either the e or cls estate variants will replace it. Then again I could just keep mine and fix it when it goes wrong. There's little not to like.

Love that it looks spot on exactly how I'd want mine to look like if I had to have a estate. beer

6 months into ownership of this, supercharged 5.5 V8. Just brilliant old wagon, paid about a third of what the above one is up for.

It's a sign that too many AMG badges go on undeserving non-special Mercs.

Glad I didnt buy one at the prices listed, they just never seem to move, there is one at a dealer in Bradford, got warned off it as it needs brake pipes, has appeared for sale again, this is weeks now, they have that saloon, and estate and a CLS 55, same stock, still sat there.

I think these cars are generally overpriced and have a limited market, loads of people would love one but cant hack £500 VED, 15 - 25 mpg, airmatic, etc etc, not sure why dealers hang onto cars like that, if it hasnt sold in months it is too expensive and selling a specialist car these days with known faults is daft as people do check and can speak to other owners.

E55 and CLS 55's are really seven to ten grand cars, more than ten really is pie in the sky, hence why they are still there, some are sixteen grand.
