So glad Alfa has got its act together, the dealer/admin side has been terrible at times. The Giulia deserves to be marketed very well.

It'd be a hard call between the Alfa and the Merc for me and I'm a huge BMW fan.

Nice situation to be in mind!
Not fancy seeing how a Jag compares?

Is there a Jaguar that compares?
XFR is out of production I think, and the XE with the supercharged V6 is quite a lot less powerful. The supercharged V8 XJs are a lot bigger and more expensive

What about the Jaguar XE 3.0 V6 SC? Ok, it may not be as 'raucous' as the others but could be worth a look - I found it a lovely car to drive.

I can imagine that Alfa taking away a lot of sales from BMW M & AMG cars. Thing is, Alfa should have been making this type of car years ago (not that the 159 is a bad car) and we'd be on the next gen of 4dr 'Ferrari powered' Alfas.

I saw that the other day. Is it pretty much just me who didn't care about all the problems he found with it? He struck me as an idiot. No interest in the car, he seemed interested only in things like radar cruise control, that I've never used anyway in cars that have it.

And the panel gap that was simply the shape of the door card, not a build problem at all. I'm pretty sure he said it was great to drive though. I'm more interested in that than non-HD reversing cameras
I am with you, those things just do not bother me. I do not like all the nanny assists personally. No other sedan besides the Alfa sound as good, its quick, it handles well and well...its a Maserati and its different from all the BMW's and Merc's that clog the roads.

Plus i can get one WAY cheaper than the Alfa.

The germanic brands have been complacent, and have been so for years

a decade ago i was a young IT upstart, on a mission to find a new company lease, budget would allow for entry level "premium" cars. I was ignored for 45 minutes in a BMW showroom, walked into the alfa showroom and had a 147 to test drive within 10 minutes.

They assume people will buy their cars anyway, even if they're treated like st.

But now Alfa is back with a stunner of a car cloud9
unlike

Alfa the sophisticated choice surely. Looks a dream. Trouble with BMW's is however wacky the colour or how many extra vents & what look like last minute plastic add-on body bits the visual link with the sales reps. versions is to too close for comfort. Most Mercs. have a whiff of the yob about them with big blingy wheels & all that drug dealer gangster glass.

Fascinating, particularly having never seen 'dd gangster glass' on any options list sonar

The alfa seems very tempting and is the quickest of the bunch I believe. There is a review on youtube that absolutely slates the Ghibli, and he does make some very good points, saying that a 550i is a much better buy.

The m3 is becoming common, and doesn't feel as special as the previous cars, mainly due to the somewhat average engine. It now feels like a jumped up 340i but the turn of pace is amazing in that car. How about a slightly used M5 for that price range, as it is a bit larger but is much more special in my eyes, and better equipped(?)

C63 is a good car, but it isn't quite fast compared to the others, but is still very capable anyway as a car.

Carwow did a great comparison on all the cars you're comparing (except the ghibli), so take a look on youtube.

I saw my first Alfa in the flesh about 2 months ago before I even knew it existed. Bought by a very good racing driver I know who was driving an M3 prior to the Alfa.

As it turned up on the driveway I just looked at it gobsmacked, its so good looking compared to the alternatives in the flesh. His has the optional carbon seats and ceramic brakes.

What a piece of kit.

M3 the bestlooking of the bunch. Maserati the best badge. Alfa the best handling. Merc the best all-round package.

If you want to cringe up the greasy work pole, it has to be the Mazza or the Merc.

Comparing the C63 to the Alfa and BMW, it is marginally slower. However, if the BMW and C63 tried to overtake each other, the BMW would pull ahead:

The alfa really does pull hard!

Thats just a drag race and brake test though.

I saw a QV on the road the first time a couple of days ago and whilst it's perhaps slightly better than in pictures, I still struggle to understand anyone thinking it a genuinely attractive car - it's just a generic and bland looking saloon to my eyes with a few out-of-place "sporty" details tacked on to distinguish it from the lesser models. It's no worse looking than the 3-series, etc. but to my eyes it's also no better.

Good to hear that it's actually a good car though. smile

Indeed. And do people actually care much about what "unknowns" think? Not sure I take what sites like Car Wow or random YouTubers say particularly seriously. It is usually hardly cutting edge analysis or journalism.

Great write up OP; look forward to an update.

Looks will always be divisive and personal but for me the Alfa's the best by some margin. The M3 is generic BMW with added tat (coal scuttles built in to front spoiler etc). The Maserati just doesn't look very special. It's not unpleasant, just very ordinary looking. The Merc is similar to the M3; standard saloon with fussy bolt ons. All 4 are spectacularly fast and competent but when paying serious money I'd want something that looks stunning. Alfa for me please cloud9

I think the point the whiny, weird bloke was trying to make was that the car was just over-priced and was using the lack of pensioner life support tech to help illustrate this.

I went to look at a Ghibli and it is priced wrong. It's classic Italian 'Bella figura'.
