Just before your warranty ends, the dealer checks the car over.

I've just had mine done.....and they did the MOT at the same time.....so it was probably just a way of extracting £40 from me for that!

I've actually no real idea what they did (probably nothing!)....but they did their usual emailed video tour of the underside of your car....which in itself is interesting...

It has to be done within the last 30 days, although it isn't clear to me why. It makes sense to combine it with an MOT. In addition to the stuff you point out, they should look for other problems. A few common things you should look at:

Check the alloy wheels extremely carefully (particularly around the centre caps as they will replace them for even very minor corrosion. I pointed out a couple of 1-2mm spots on 2 (403M) wheels, and they replaced all 4, so all evidence of poor parking has now gone!

Check the 1-8 buttons on dash at night time - they have a tendency to get a hairline crack which is only visible in the dark when illuminated from behind. My F10 and F30 have both done this and needed replacement.

Check drivers seat bolster for wear....

I am in the same boat as you my M235i warranty is expiring in June.

You can do what am going to do is get the extended warranty you can get from BMW.

When I phoned them about it they said they send letters about these warranties the month the warranty is due to expire

The extended warranty does seem quite good value. I don't usually bother with warranties, but at £427 for a year with a £100 excess, it made sense.

I have a feeling that they group all cars of a series (excluding M cars - not sure about M-lite) together, so the warranty for a fully loaded 335d costs the same as a factory spec 316d, even though many of the parts are much more expensive, and the policy cap is set at the purchase price.

This is useful information, as I've just bought a 335d whose warranty expires next Summer, so I was going to query how much the extended warranty is.

Is the leap in renewal cost still at 60000 miles?

I noticed the other day that my buttons 1 2 and 4 have a slight crack. What causes this?? I haven't allocated these buttons so never use them. The car goes in for a service in 2500 miles time so I'll ask for them to look.

Does the BMW warranty cover corrosion on the wheels even if it's a few years old? I purchased a 61 plate f10 with the 19" rims in September from BMW and have noticed a couple of them showing corrosion around the centre caps.
Do you think these would be covered.

Yes, but if you switch to monthly payments on the last annual renewal before you hit 60k miles, the payment is essentially frozen at that level, subject to annual inflationary increases of a couple of percent.

I think you have a pretty good chance of it being covered.

No idea of the cause, it just seems to be a common fault. I rarely use those buttons as well.

My 328i was 2 years old when BMW swapped all 403Ms for new. I bought it as an AUC car at 14 months old.
