Now or then, straight or gay.

Past holders of the title (non exhaustive list) -

Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart
Carole Lombard and Clark Gable
Jane Asher and Paul McCartney
Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham
Shakira and Michael Caine
Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears (need more cool gay couples, can't think of the cool ones right now)
George Sand (a woman) and Frederic Chopin (not a woman)
Mary and Percy Shelley
Lady Caroline Lamb and Lord Byron
Konstanze and Wolfgang Mozart
Iman and David Bowie
Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller
Jackie and John Kennedy
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman
Lily Langtry and Edward VII
Diana and Duff Cooper
Martha Gellhorn and Ernest Hemingway
Elizabeth and Dudley, but not Elizabeth and Essex
Marie Walewska and Napoleon Bonaparte
Cleopatra with Julius Caesar but not with Mark Antony
Angelica Huston and Jack Nicholson
Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Jerry Hall and Bryan Ferry (but not Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger? Deffo not Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch)
Elizabeth II and Philip Mountbatten, but only in the fifties.
Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden, but she should have married Peter Townsend, which on second thoughts means that Elizabeth has never been cool because she blocked that, and Margaret failed to be cool because she let Elizabeth block it.

Current contenders -

Michelle and Barack Obama
Melinda and Bill Gates
Beyonce and Jay-Z
Mummy and Daddy Pig, obvs.
Lana Kane and Sterling Archer, also obvs.

Probably not: Amal and George Clooney. He is not quite as cool as he makes out to be, although he is reasonably cool. She is cool - she's actually a pretty good lawyer as well as looking great in shoes, but she may well be his beard, and that ain't cool.

Never in a kabillion years - Posh and Becks, David and Elton, Kate and Wills, Liza and David (the latter also disqualified on grounds of both being dead). EDIT: except for the one that isn't.

Jump in.

No - utter fakes and charlatans, and one of them isn't even gay. I forget which one.

But that's your own opinion. Surely you can't deny there was a time they were very 'cool'?

Tut! Comment not valid unless accompanied by Big Lebowski meme or t-shirt. They were perceived to be cool, I grant you that. I didn't buy it at the time, and I still ain't buying it now, but I may be wrong, as I often am.
