Anything different or unfamiliar is branded as ugly to begin with. Once we have acclimatised to seeing them everywhere it will cease to jar. I think this would look very mean in black. And to say it will be ugly because you've seen the base car on the road is overly simplistic - it's amazing what a decent stance/wheels can do to any car. The only problem I have with the styling of the cooking models is they sit far too high.
Seating position in the last gen was pretty good I thought. Agreed around stance. Wheels lowering springs and splitters was all what we could afford in the old days but it made the difference aesthetically

Funny how no one has pointed out that VW may have tweaked the clubsport at the ring.
The thing with the Golf was that when Sport Auto did their independent Supertest they got within about 7 seconds of VW's own time. This was in a showroom spec car that they independently measured the power and weight of. Taking into account they said they only had one hour of tracktime in the car to set a lap then it is generally considered that the official Golf time was probably kosher. When they tested the 2015 Civic under the same regime they were 25 seconds slower than Honda's time.

And you've never had an off?
I've ridden lots of high powered bikes on tracks & have come off on a few occasions.
As I've said earlier VW had a cage & an optimised car (whatever that means) all of them seem to do it now the last true FWD Production time actually belongs to the Megane & that had a cage as standard.
Touch wood no. I came close in an SUV on all seasons at Kallenhard in the wet (it gripped just as it got to the edge of the circuit), but it's still generally possible to drive on it, but safely....I've ridden lots of high powered bikes on tracks & have come off on a few occasions.

I own an FK2. I appreciate that its looks are divisive, I didn't like it in the photos in the original press releases but when I saw one in the flesh it clicked, it's a bit bonkers but it works IMO.
This thing, in the photos at least, looks like a total dogs dinner. I don't like the standard/ none cooking models that I've seen on the road/forecourt so it's off to a bad start but I'll have to reserve judgement until I see one of these Type R's in the flesh because it might make me change my mind like the FK2 did, time will tell.

No chance, the manufacturers have all fallen for the premium tyre marketing and don't realise they could have something just as good out of a Chinese ship container for £30 a corner.
It's not April 1st again is it? Can you really get Cheap Chinese rubber that perform like Cup2's etc? Regiment said:

So the Civic Type-R continues to get uglier with each incarnation.
Best looking Civic they've ever done.BTW the 6th generation EK9 is by far the best looking Civic Type-R.

You can get a transit van round in under 10 mins! It's all PR fluff. I'd like to see all those hot hatches race each other round!
Well, no offence, I doubt that YOU could get a Transit around in just under ten minutes - but somebody who knows the place inside out could (although I'm making an assumption there in fairness), even still, that's around one minute and fourty to fifty seconds slower than these things and their rivals.Which is a lot.

Finally someone speaking some sense. When they tested the 2015 Civic under the same regime they were 25 seconds slower than Honda's time.

Best looking Type R is the FD2
Best looking Type-R is the NSX...IMO :-)I agree the best looking Civic is the FD2. Prefer the first generation DC5 to the FD2 though.
A couple of things about this record lap...
1. Who cares anymore? Nobody believes these laps. Honda are about 5 years late to this Nurburgring willy waving craze. It will probably help their marketing campaign in equal amounts as their tragic F1 performance will damage it.
2. When they have to make a car that is so damn ugly in the name of performance, what's the point?
Let's get back to cleaner, classier designs. Ok the Civic isn't a looker to begin with, but it's not a race car is it. The Civic should be a practical hot hatchback. Your customers have to drive this to work without looking a complete wally.
Please Honda, as a previous Type-R owner in my 'youth', I really want to buy a Type-R but you're making it very difficult.

Hmm, no not sure about that! A white one drove past me near Richmond Park a couple of weekends back, so exactly the same as in the pictures here, not a base car and no question, in the flesh it is absolutely gopping. I actually thought it was weird JDM import variant until I read this article. What you don't get from the pictures here is how very big it seems (especially the front end) and how weirdly proportioned it is from the side on. Doesn't really look like a hatchback.FourRingedDonuts said:
