On a more prosaic note I find I can impress passengers in my Honda S2000 just by holding on to 2nd gear. As you pass 6000rpm they're politely impressed and expecting a change of gear. By the time we reach 9000 they tend to be mor fulsome in their comments!
Took a while to get my mates to rev mine all the way out while driving, they'd instinctivley change at about 7k...I'd have to tell them off for changing up too soon a few times before they got anywhere near the limiter. There is some nonsense talked here about nearly killing people. Yes of course you can drive like a dangerous **** in an attempt to show off, but it's also perfectly possible to find a long straight quiet A road and demonstrate a standing start up to 70-80 and then hard on the anchors without killing any bunnies. Comparing say my M3 with a family hatchback this will more than create an impression on the average person.
While we might all get used to our own, probably generally quick motors, there's still fun to be had from experiencing a level or two up. I had the joy of experiencing the 3.5ish second launch controlled 0-60 in a Ferrari California T a couple of years back (first as passenger then driver) and I can tell you I didn't stop grinning for about a week afterwards

I always find braking more of a question... once your used to track driving, knowing just how hard and late you can brake (even at 7/10ths) is more impressive than outright shove!
But there is an art to this, my E46 M3 feels fast and fruity (louder exhaust and uprated brakes, other then that its bog standard) on my own, but when giving 3 blokes a lift it suddenly felt a bit slow (weight + not huge torque) and too loud! I'm sure an 4.4 Turbo M5 would have seemed like a rocket ship in comparison for that particular journey. But most of the time I'm driving on my own so, i'll stick!

God some of you posters need to get a life. There are few joys in life better than driving ludicrously quick cars.
If you don't agree I'm sure there are others on the bowls forum who'd love to hear about it.
Anyway, back to the good stuff. My favourite passenger ride ever was as a young lad new to driving in a 993 c2. Nothing fancy, just a bog standard, bottom of the range non-varioram manual. I'd never been out in a car with the driver before, he drove me through the village at 30mph and it felt so raw and full of engine in the cabin I could only relate it to heading down the pit lane under a speed limiter. 300yards before the national limit sign he unnecessarily weaved a bit saying he needed to warm the tires and then gunned it in 2nd from the sign up a hill and over a slight crest. I was flung from one side of the seat to the other and as we came down the other side he braked so hard for the first bend I could feel my whole weight or more through my shoes against the plate in the footwell. The grip out of the bend as he gave it full throttle from the centre of the tight apex was more than I had ever felt or could have imagined possible. That memory and the smile is as strong now as it was more than 15 years ago.
It has been my great pleasure to return the favour to many many passengers over the years. Sadly my days of 500hp cars are long in the past now.
However, I used many of the tricks mentioned, slow to start to exaggerate the sensation, accelerating in a bend for the combined g-load, late braking and my personal favourite in a turbo, pulling out early on an overtake at half throttle in 4th allowing it to build a little boost and then a quick smooth flick into 3rd mid overtake and flooring the throttle for the maximum wrecking ball impact against the backside feeling as your ears sink into the leather.. epic fun.

Where is a good place in the south east for passenger rides / experiences?
Done some driving experiences but when you are held back so much I'd rather experience the full rev range even if I have to be a passenger?
Get yourself to The Supercar Event at Dunsfold (the Top Gear track) on 24-25 June. You can have passenger rides in any number of supercars and sports cars, as well as Caterham Sevens.Done some driving experiences but when you are held back so much I'd rather experience the full rev range even if I have to be a passenger?
Book tickets and rides in advance here.
