I'm currently building a posh garden shed (build thread coming soon when I have a few more pictures) with a very low slope flat roof covered in one piece of EPDM rubber. Does it need gravel on top, there seems to be conflicting advice on the internet. It's bonded completely to the boards underneath so doesn't need ballast.

the gravel is for fire resistance, and to reflect the sun.

Ive got EPDM on my 6x3 "shed" with a low slope and the water runs off adequately enough.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but it's high up in the google search for the topic so might be relevant to others!

Is there any reason NOT to put some gravel on an EPDM roof (other than the load limit of the rafters which isn't an issue in this case)? i.e. will it have a negative impact in any way?

Specifically I'm asking as I'd like to put some sort of cover on an EPDM flat roof for aesthetic purposes, especially as it's now needed a patch repair following a dislodged tile from the roof above.
