Wishing my RRS sounded more like an SVR
Discussion
I recently took ownership of a 2010 RRS 5.0 supercharged. (Following spells in a BMW X5 50i and Infiniti FX50). Certain aspects of the car I love but one thing I am disappointed with is the stock sound. Is this a common complaint? I am maybe being somewhat unfair but after hearing an SVR on cold start up the other day i'm dreaming of mine sounding even slightly similar with some fettling. Has anyone changed parts or all of the exhaust on the 2010 supercharged model? I have seen various videos on Youtube with silencers removed, custom straight pipes and full exhausts from people like quicksilver. Keen to get some educated advice before I decide what route to take. Thanks in advance

I don't want to piss on your fire but it's a Range Rover.
No matter how hard it tries it won't be a true sports car.
I use mine for what it was built for in the olden days. Barging in supreme comfort with a quiet V8 rumble, towing, and off roading when needed.
Fair point well made, equally I just like to hear a bit more of that V8. No matter how hard it tries it won't be a true sports car.

Well it's simple go to your nearest exhaust fabricator ask them to put an X-Pipe in & lose the resonators or give Quicksilver a call.
Thanks for the reply, I did assume that was going to be the best route. I was just slightly apprehensive of having someone i haven't used before hacking into my exhaust! If anyone could recommend someone in the Berkshire area that would be much appreciated. sleepera6 said:

Horses for courses etc, but any petrol V8 sounds great to me so I don't see the problem with what the OP wants to do. There's an old V8 RR that goes though our village occasionally and it sounds great with its modified exhaust (or maybe it's just blowing )No matter how hard it tries it won't be a true sports car.

Good sounding V8s aren't just the preserve of sports cars.

Not to mention bystander noise regulations that it would have needed to comply with when it was built...No matter how hard it tries it won't be a true sports car.

I've noticed the same with the Range Rover 5.0. It doesn't sound bad by any means, it's just that Land Rover has clearly worked very hard on refinement and sound deadening, and the end result is that it's almost too quiet.
In comparison, the previous shape Range Rover with the 4.4 petrol V8 (BMW engine, I think) sounds great, despite the fact that they're actually quite slow!

The SVR is louder than the regular RRS so a bit of exhaust work to the standard car is not going to harm anyone.

As for drive-by noise regulations I wouldn't be surprised if such active exhaust systems have the equivalent of a 'cheat device' to ensure compliance.
