Always loved the brand, wanted an Alfasud or Sprint when young, wanted a Brera S (the above looks gorgeous by the way) a bit later and now I have lept in with both feet and my Giulia Qv is arriving on Thursday - really looking forward to it! Really, really looking forward to it

Well said! As I have posted already I have done 3,300 in an early build RHD car with absolutely no issues at all, the dealer, Donnellys updated the software, lent me another Giulia, offered to collect and drop the car back if I wanted - first class service. Some Friends who own the variety of the German models referenced by others have not had a fault free time either. I will not elaborate on their woes but if Alfa had to pull out of the UK market like Lancia was forced to (no thanks to "that's life" programme) I would have bought a LHD QV model, such is the enjoyment I am getting from it.

What driveshaft failures are these you speak of?? I owned 2 F10 M5's & never had an issue with the driveshaft or summoned to have any recall carried out.

"The M3 is the best looking car here..." Seriously? It's just another 3-Series on steroids. The Alfa is by far the best looking of the 3 - just the right blend of menace, flair and cool. On design alone it puts the other 2 in the shade. Shame about the mech problems though......

Got my Giulia Quadrifoglio at the end of Feb, have done nearly 5000 miles in it including slogging up to Glasgow and back. 0 Faults.

It worries me that once the internet search engines get hold of this story and the associated forum posts a perfectly reliable car goes back to a pile of rust from the 70s.

A lot of modern cars have issues. Over time they have got more and more complicated both in terms of toys and the tech required to meet emissions\mpg targets etc. However rightly or wrongly the German cars have a reputation as being reliable and while this is mostly a carry over from when they actually were better built and not really applicable anymore, it's still ingrained into a lot of the general public's psyche where as with Alfa it's exactly the opposite.

Unfortunately this means Alfa have to try twice as hard as anyone else, just to beat this ingrained perception and stuff like this really does them no favours. As I said the person in the PR department who sent this car out without the latest updates\fixes to make sure it was in tip-top condition needs taking out back and shooting.

I don't understand why BMW and Mercedes keep releasing cars that look so boring! Ok the AMG looks like fun to drive but I'd still fall asleep if I looked at it for to long.

The Alfa, as always, looks gorgeous and although performance wise it's not on the same level as the other two it would be my choice everytime

What? It's better performance wise than both of the others in almost any metric, and in multiple tests. AND it also gets the emotional vote.

I'd have the Alfa under any circumstances. It would still give me a smile looking at it sat on the driveway even if it was broken at the time. The other two are just... tools.

To me, except for the corporate face, the Alfa it looks damned near identical to the BMW and Mercedes.

yeah it looks similar but they are screwed any way you cut it with normals.

"I dont like it, it looks just like a BMW"

or

You've said this quite a few times, have you seen one in the metal? I thought they looked quite samey until I saw a real one and the stance and small details really do set it apart. OK the basic shape is the same but you can't really do too much within the confines of the small saloon segment but to my eyes at least, it's quite a bit different in the detail to the Germans and a lot better looking.

Same story here: Got mine at the end of February too, 5,500 trouble-free miles including a road-trip to Milan and back (approximately 2,000 miles) in a 5 day period. Couldn´t be happier.

Truth is these are all very good cars indeed.

Everybody has their preferences and these three brands are always going to attract comments from fanboys and fauxClarksons.

The annoying thing about the Alfa under review is that the issue in question has been resolved via a recent software update made available to all owners which it seems the press office car hasn't had. Utter stupidity and own goal scoring on behalf of ARUK.
And £60k brand new cars just aren't expected to suffer failures like this.

Alfa, you've just lost the room.
How are the sales figures doing? Have they really lost the room?
No. I've just looked at all three. M3 CP (dozens in the system). C63s, choice of over 20 for delivery within 4 weeks. Alfa, 3 month wait time.

Driving back-to-back, IMO, the Alfa is alive. The others just feel like great cars.

Yes, both a number of "normal" ones and a QF.

It's certainly not a bad looking car (at least in normal guise, I'm not keep on the front end of the QF), it's just utterly anonymous. The looks wouldn't be a factor either way for me when comparing it to the German competition.

I can see both sides of this.
Its a C segment 3 box, that has to beat the 3 series. So proportionally and set up it does have obvious overtones....

Seeing them on the screen and in print...I've covered up the face and yes you could put any brand on it to a degree.

I've also seen them on the road. I watch them like I don't watch a 3 or anA4 or C-class...
This is either because it's new and rare, or because it's genuinely attractive and 'different' (in surface treatment and/or detail), I haven't decided yet.
But the big 3 Germans are completely ignored by me purely on the basis of lazy-same-again styling and ubiquity.
