I remember this series from watching it as a kid, anyone else remember ?

I seem to remember there was an accompanying magazine with the series and in it were plans to make a warship (maybe a plane as well?). I took the plans for the ship into school and if you were interested you could make the ship as part of classwork, plenty started but plenty of us fell by the wayside!

Yup I've still got the book somewhere, It had plans for a frigate, possibly a yacht and a glider, i'll have to rummage it out.
I'd only ever built airfix models and I remember looking at the plans perplexed thinking 'hows someone supposed to make a 'thing' from this?'
I was dead chuffed getting the book though, because we were poor and didn't get much.

There was another series on one of the the Sky channels some years back. Dealt with supersize models
One was of one of those US built RAF freighters that had 4 miniature jet engines and a wingspan of about 10 foot.
The other that really impressed me was the boat club that built a huge model of HMS Fearless
This must have been 15ft long and it even lowered its stern to get the landing craft afloat. Not only was the landing craft R/C but when it got to the 'beach' it lowered its ramp and a tank rolled out, which then fired of a shot!!
Some of the US live steam 7 1/4 gauge models are bloody huge. I have seen a 5in Big Boy at Ascot but those ones must be mind boggling

I remember that. The same guy did another series where he built a garden railway and Men & Motors used to have a weekly show called Model Club which was heavily into R/C. My dad is the glider when this came out. I recall it had a fuse you had to light to limit flight time and deploy the tail section as an air brake. I also recall getting slightly stoned on the fumes from the cellulose dope for the wing coverings.
About 25 years ago I did the frigate and updated it to carry Seawolf missiles and a Wasp helicopter from the Corgi range. 2 function RC was fitted and it looked good on the water.

Dr_gn - does the book/magazine have any extra info over and above the plans? I've found somewhere that is selling copies of the plans, but if the book adds extra detail then I'll try and find the set. (My Father in law was on a Leander class when he was in the Navy, so think this would be a good build to do with my son).
