A tight battle at the front between the title contenders should make for an exciting qualifying. Can Force India continue their current good run? Will the Red Bull be better on this high down-force circuit? Will JB get McLarens first points of the season? We will find out soon enough.

The elevation map can't be right.
The map would have it that there's a 47.5m (156ft) drop from the car to the sea. There clearly isn't.

Depends where Sea Level is measured from.

Sea Level in the UK is measured from the mean sea level at Newlyn.

Are you suggesting that the sea level at Monte Carlo is 50ft higher than sea level?

Whatever datum they used for the elevations, the relative elevations around the course are correct.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the long wheelbase Mercedes copes with the tight twists and turns. I think these are the longest F1 cars ever, and the extra width from last year could also catch one or two drivers out.

Probably less than 12 ft.

Looking it up, it appears the max elevation differential is a little over 130ft so it looks about right in that regard.

So then, tyre pressures.. The theory is that Mercedes struggle to get the tyres in to a decent temperature window when pressures are low. Ferrari don't appear to have this problem.

All teams give Pirelli feedback from sims and testing with regards to load placed on the tyres, Pirelli will increase pressures to cope with higher loads.

There is a rumour that Mercedes have been somewhat generous with the load figures they've given to Pirelli.

Pirelli review data from all teams during a weekend and have found that the loads were not as high as expected, hence they drop the pressures on a Saturday afternoon.

The pressure drops on a Saturday definitely have happened this year, but I'm slightly dubious that Pirelli have been misled beforehand - I think they've just been erring on the side of caution. Here's the article: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/pirell...

Either way, Pirelli have set the pressures at 16.5 rear and 17 front for this weekend, if all this is true thats not going to help Merc.

Haas have new team colours:

Maybe they just found some old Williams paint from a few years ago ?

Newey says design by committee doesn't work, pretty much says "it weren't my fault guv" with regard to the RB performance this year. He's been pulled back in to spend more time with the design team (paywalled, but can be circumvented with incognito/private mode): http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/129699...
