1980s - F40
1990s - 993 C2
2000s - (The other three were easy, but I've struggled with this decade) I think it's either a B7 RS4 or an S2000

Off the top of my head.

80's - F40
90's - Eunos Roadster or RX7
00's - Blobeye Sti
10's - This one's really difficult for me as I don't really pine after new cars, but I do like the F-Type Jag.

I've only driven two of the above. Unfortunately an F40 is not one.

Good thread. I've tried to keep things (relatively) affordable rather than going for true exotica.

60s

Japan's straight-six Capri. One of my favourite cars when I was 5.

70s

Even if some C3s in the oil-crisis era only had about 3 bhp...

80s

Always wanted one. Never driven one.

90s

One of my favourite cars of all time. Chop-roof V8 nutmobile. Bottled it and bought a Chimaera instead.

00s

Exige S1. Always liked the road-legal Motorsport Elise looks.

10s

Oh yeah.

I could easily just play "name a Ferrari from each decade", but there's no fun in that, so here goes:
70s: 1979 Turbo Trans Am. as a kid, Smokey and bandit was the best film ever if you liked cars.

80s: many choices here, do i go supercar or rally monster? In the end, it has to be the F40 - nothing comes close

90s: r33 Skyline GTR is the obvious choice, but I'll say TVR Tuscan as i used to gaze at them in the dealer car park from my awful tech support job

00s: veyron. There can be no other

10s: as I get older and encumbered with family, I have veered towards two wheels, but an Alfa 4c is a thing of beauty

OK, starting in the 1970's

The next is specifically a Clubsport F after reading an EVO feature some years ago concerning a record attempt at the 'ring by Marc Basseng

70s: Bit of a struggle to remember what I liked when growing up - probably any car I could point at from my pushchair. So, Triumph Stag because I like the looks and the v8
80s: Quattro (20v)
90s: McLaren F1
00s: S2 Elise (111R)
10s: 911R

Lots of other good choices on this thread made it harder to choose than I expected

Picking just one from the 90's is tricky.
90's. Mk4 Supra... Or the F40... F50... F1... XJ220... GT2... I could go on and on.
00's. Murcielago 6.2. Yellow. Manual. Nothing else comes close for me.
10's. 911 GT2 RS. Not much else in this decade for me personally. Maybe LFA, F12 TDF.

I like the new Huracan Performante and Aventador S, but no manual option would always leave me wanting more. Infact that honestly stops me from really "wanting" a lot of modern stuff, anyway, wrong thread.

Via the Pistonheads Facebook page. smile

I was born in 1979 so...

1970's

Green Lancia Montecarlo.

Close call between the Stratos and 72 Buick Riviera but the Monte would be best to live with.

1980's

Porsche 935 Turbo SE

I drove a full race version and it is still the most fun and scared I have ever experienced behind the wheel.

1990's

Aston Martin V600 Le Mans

Another close call as pretty much all the best cars I can think of are from the 90's. BMW E36 M3 Evo, Lotus Carlton, Nissan Skyline R32 and R33, Punto GT, Fiat Coupe 16V Turbo, Lancia Delta Integralle, Alfa 155 V6, Alfa 155 P4, Escort Cosworth to name a few. If I have to explain why I adore the V600 you're on the wrong forum.

2000's

Maserati MC12

The second fastest thing I have ever driven. Simply incredible in every way. It was this or the Alfa 159 3.2 Q4 if practicality were a consideration one of the best all round cars of the decade.

2010's

This is difficult because nearly all new cars are a crap-fest of drivers aids and should be reclassified as drones or they have something wrong with them.

The Alfa 4C and Fiat 124 Abarth are too small for me to drive comfortably.
The Fiat 500 Abarth is the same size as my 1997 Bravo (like most "small cars" they the roughly the size of medium cars from fifteen-twenty years ago).

Audi RS5, great car, fantastic engine and mechanical torque vectoring instead of a blow fuse away from brake failure (Nissan GTR) but bloody expensive and even though it comes with the rarest of the rare manual gearbox the drivers aids are too intrusive for my liking.

Vauxhall Insignia VXR. The best of the VXR bunch in my opinion as it's the least obvious. Great handling and for a car of it's size pretty good performance. Think of it as bargain Audi S4 but with less under steer. Easily the best car with a Vauxhall badge since the Lotus Carlton.

It'll have to be the new Ford Mustang...

...but not the V8 everyone have been raving about. No I would like and am seriously looking to getting a 2.3 Ecoboost.

As a child of the 80's I can remember the mighty Sierra RS500's of the BTCC and the Mustang Ecoboost is the closest thing Ford have sold in the UK since. The Sapphire Cosworth was great, the Probe not bad for a Mazda/Mercury and Cougar pretty good for a Mondeo in a frock but unlike those the Mustang is a front engine rear wheel drive two door and watch out for the Ecoboost it will be the next YB.

Seems Ferrari or BMW are king of the 80's from the responses so far...

80s... could go Jag XJR-S, 930 slantnose, R32 GTR slips in (but feels like cheating), AE86...

Think I'll choose

DR30 Skyline RS-Turbo

90's I could go with JZA80 Supra, FD RX-7, S1 Exige, Jag XJ220, GC8 Impreza...

Viper GTS-R

00's... Zonda, Carrera GT...

Elise S2

10's...Viper ACR GTS-R edition (can't have another one)... 918 spyder,

But I'll go left field...

Wow, choices choices.....

Right then:

1980s Audi Sport Quattro, toss up between this and the F40. I'd take either in real life! Could write a whole list on 80s cars TBH.
1990s McLaren F1 LM. Audi RS2 is the runner up and far more realistic an option.
2000s Renault Clio V6 (255). Shame people don't make crazy affordable cars anymore like this. Runner up would have to be the Zonda F, although I would rather have one of these than the Clio it disappoints me that cars like the Clio don't exist new anymore.
2010s struggling here as there are loads of really nice cars but none that jump into my head like the other decades. I'd say a C63 AMG Black edition or a 918. Both admirable for different reasons, the 918 gets the nod over its rivals because of its a bit more everyday than the others and it spits fire out of the top of the engine bay, the C6r doesn't take any explaining just look and listen to one! GTC4 would be a contender too.

Some very good choices though from everyone. I did like the mention of the 456 a few pages back in particular.

'70s child, so...

'70s - Second Gen Camaro... More specifically, something akin to Mary Pozzi's '73 Camaro:

'80s - obviously wink The only type I've owned in this list (though mine was Super Red 2 in colour):

'90s - came close to buying one, but child and not wanting a divorce kinda put paid to it. Probably my favourite car ever:

'00s - TVR Typhon, rather bonkers:

'10s - utterly bonkers: Hennessey Venom - Hethel meets 7L Chevy V8 and a couple of turbos:
