Dan Trent - Leaving
Discussion
Afternoon all!
Well in a way I'm glad someone noticed! I did debate the merits of a homepage story but on reflection decided against on the basis it would have been a bit needy and egotistical. And also for the reason that although I'm leaving the payroll my voice will continue to be heard here (with apologies to lucido grigio, V8RX7, SidewaysSi, bloomen, scubadude, etc) as I'll be continuing to write for the homepage in a freelance capacity. Bad luck everyone!
Given that it would have seemed a bit odd to do a full farewell type valedictory speech, given I'm not totally disappearing from the PH universe.
But seeing as I'm now here...
A huge thanks to everyone who's helped make this such an amazing job for the last five and a bit years. On the contribs side that includes but is not limited to that man Harris, Shed, Riggers, Scroff, Garlick, Stuart for giving me the job in the first place and all the fabulous freelancers who've done their bit over the years. Also to James Drake and his team but especially Nikolai and Matt, who'll be having to manage me as a freelancer henceforth!
Biggest thanks goes to you lot though. Haters gonna hate and all that but to write for such a vocal, knowledgable, opinionated and passionate audience is a real challenge but makes for one of the most rewarding gigs in the industry in my book. Which is why I was so keen to continue contributing to the site - my PH flak jacket has some life left in it yet!
Don't go changing and all that!
Cheers,
Dan

There's a new Lidl opening near me and they're hiring staff. Coincidence?
There's a Lidl opening near you? I think that says more about you than Dan trent.Dan
Thanks for your contributions Dan, I spend a lot of time on site and thank anybody who helps the cogs turn. Also been happy to read any content you've written.
But I'll be brutally honest and say I won't miss the video content...whilst often interesting content I don't find you exciting to watch. Lack on screen charisma and come across a little dull and boring...
Either way, best of luck going forward.

Dan, thanks for taking the time to post, care to let us into what the future hold for you?
And do you fancy doing a gratuitous custard pic with you, your Mac and a "Haters Gonna Hate" sign (a lá Wenger Out signs)
Well it's an idea! And do you fancy doing a gratuitous custard pic with you, your Mac and a "Haters Gonna Hate" sign (a lá Wenger Out signs)
And the future? Well I'm hoping keeping up a steady flow of contributions to the homepage if Matt and the lads will take them! My passion for PH remains as strong as ever and the point about this being the most rewarding audience to write for and engage with stands. I love the fact we're often writing stories for people who know more about the subject matter than we do and there's absolutely nowhere to hide or bullst your way through it. A real challenge for a writer but a very rewarding one when it goes right!
And I don't think there's anywhere else so closely aligned with my personal world view towards cars and whatnot so to keep that relationship going in one form or another would be great. It's been an absolute privilege to be able to share that with a (generally!) receptive audience and it's been an incredibly rewarding job to have held. Sorry to leave but it had to happen one day! And I'm reminded of something someone said when I was going for the job when we were discussing the readership demographic and they said "but you ARE the demographic!" and I hope that still stands. OK, I don't own a TVR but I have got an old MX-5 and the willingness to eulogise over it endlessly. Got to count for something, right?
Cheers!
Dan

Ignore them.
Glad we'll still enjoy your words here which are far more concise and to the point than some of our resident pundits and/or failed car journos!

Hear, hear on the satisfaction writing for PH, Dan - I love it, and any feedback (good or bad) is always appreciated. Fully concur it makes you think very carefully because the audience is so expert and enthusiastic. I relish every opportunity.
Best of luck: you've been a superb PH editor and a pleasure to work with.
