I'm a car driver and occasional cyclist. After being cut up by a car driver while cycling today I think I should wear a sign on my back saying "I'm a car driver too. Give me a break."

Any better ideas?

So what you are saying is, regardless of the fact you have a vehicle capable of using the roads without causing obstruction, you chose the obstructing causing method instead?

I'd cut you up more if I am honest.

You could state arms, legs or both.

They are not cutting you up because YOU are a cyclist, other than that they think there is little come back, it is because THEY are an ahole.

Hello, is this the room for an argument?

Likely nobody wants to cut you up. Some are not capable of correct judgement, others are not putting in enough effort but either way cars and bikes shouldn't be on the same stretch of road.

I think the sign idea is a bit too juvenile/ironic to really work. And it's probably a bit impractical to put one on each time too.

What we need are clear guidelines as to which cyclists we can cut up and which ones we can just drive over.

Can you give us more facts?

How close
Road layout,
Direction of travel
Speed of both parties at the time of the event.
Etc.

Best bet is to emigrate I think.

Britain is full of cyclist-hating drivers that cant stand sharing the roads with any other road users. As time passes the aggression just becomes more and more blatant. I doubt it'll be much longer before drivers start deliberately running down cyclists, as has been in the papers a couple of times recently.

Forget about your legal rights to use the road, there are no traffic police left to enforce the law.

I've done my cycling proficiency when I was a little fella, tractor test, car test, Direct Access bike test, American CDL (Class 1 HGV), 2 advanced driving tests in the car, Bikesafe and have Class 2 and cycle to work.

My cycling commute is 3 minutes on a NSL B road and almost every day I get cut up before a traffic island, or over taken just before a junction or overtaken as I am trying to turn right.

The thing is, there isn't really a type, though probably mums are the worst, but not by much of a margin. Some people seem like they are cyclists and give me loads of room and try not to intimidate me (go on then, try it), others, and I don't know if it is out of ignorance, stupidity or hatred, seem to resent my presence on the road and try to give as little room as possible.

When cycling there will be stupid drivers and riders, when driving there will be stupid cyclists and riders, when cycling there will be stupid cyclists, pedestrians or drivers, list goes on and on and on

It won't help, try to be courteous and treat everybody equally. When confronted with idiots, just ignore and move on, everything else is a waste of time. You'd have to sport a huge list of slogans to address every single conflict of interest.

Or buy a cam, mount it on your helmet and post videos on youtube shouting at cars. It's hilarious

I'll point out that much as I love the invention of the car.

It's cars that cause obstructions on the road far more than a handful of people on bikes. Every single morning and every single evening on my commute I end up sat in a queue of cars somewhere. If there were no cars, there'd be no congestion laugh

Good point. Roads were designed for Horses. Then Bikes came along. And then years after cars. Cars need to start flying or something rather than just using the road network designed for others first! hehe

What, pray tell, is this vehicle that is capable of using the roads without causing obstruction? I can only think it must be a Rolls Royce Wraith or Silver Ghost. I'm sure that a lot of people will spend a long time stuck in bank holiday/half term traffic this weekend, but you won't find a cyclist at the front of all the queues - cars are more than capable of snarling the roads up by themselves.

Now I am a cyclist and a car driver, and i see looking over my shoulder before pulling out part of general road awareness where cars, potholes, etc are concerned to see if a vehicle is coming when cycling, most cyclists just stare straight ahead and weave about Willy nilly unaware of the traffic around then, not sure what relevance this had to the ops post but I imagine most of these people are not just cyclists but i basic roadcraft should be a skill you show having used any vehicle on the roads
