After all these years, I usually resign myself to never winning an argument with her at home. But there is one that I'm not totally convinced about. The passenger side mirror on my...sorry, our V8V doesn't unfold with the driver's side mirror when I unlock the car. If I lock the car then unlock it again, they both unfold simultaneously as I think they should.

Now, I'm convinced this isn't meant to happen. But the better half insists it is and that the mirror unfolds when you start the car and start driving.

Does anyone on here have the guts to correct my missus? Or do I just assume the position and put up and shut up?

I'd quite like to enjoy my latest purchase before I'm hung, drawn and quartered.

My experience, is that it is when the ignition is turned on, that both external door mirrors move open at the same time, to their driving position.

When pressing the key fob to lock the car, both the door mirrors then fold to their closed position.

I recall there might be some alternatives to the above sequences, but how the other choices are made I don't know. It would need a look in the handbook.

Your lady is correct, obviously.

However, the mirrors could also move together should you decide to have the parts changed in such a manner to be more consistent with the original design of the car.

I cannot recall seeing it written anywhere that only one mirror folds out and the car has to be locked then unlocked again for both to operate in the manner.

Oh well, God bless warranties!

I didn't think my car had folding mirrors until I took it for its ( my) first service. It now does

Brilliant and under warranty

It's really easy to lose the functionality (disconnect battery, for example), and the early cars require an AMDS to re-enable the auto-folding. The later cars have an option in the center console menus to turn it on and off.

I've done all that. Seems weird it's just the one that doesn't unfold first time if the car has been locked for a while, which makes me think it's faulty.

FWIW every now and then my passenger side mirror (07 MY V8V) stays put when the drivers one folds in.... I think of it as a bit of character smile also, the small drop in the window drivers side sometimes doesn't go back up when I close the door... but only if I'm outside the car.... smile it won't then lock either... I have to open and close the door until the window self closes before it wil lock.... strange... but not as strange as my ex wife.... no really..... or her family for that matter... took strange to a whole new level.....
