Just a thought, has anyone here had the GWR supercharger conversion done to a V8 Vantage? Out of interest only, good?, not so? etc.

Funny I was chatting to James at DAE when the car was in for a service and a Red roadster which had been supercharged was just leaving he seemed to think it was similar output to a v12 in performance ... not sure if he was referring to 4.3 or 4.7

From what he was saying it seemed very expensive ... i would think its better just to add a bit more and buy a v12

All looks good in theory but issues really are as someone pointed out the cost of the install (I remember it being about £20k) takes even the most basic 4.3 V8V worth £30k up to about £50k sunk, which if you think about it is the same as buying a 4.7 and fitting Bamford Rose's exhaust system which would also get you about 460BHP vs 510 in the V12. I think that would be a very noticable step up from the 4.3 and maintain a much more significant OEM proportion of the drivetrain, and it's reversible on resale and the BR exhaust would probably hold 50% of it's value too.

You'll never see that £20k back on resale, it will probably be a pig to sell, people are very unforgiving of any mods on these sorts of cars and especially one putting more strain on the engine

That being said if your car is a keeper and you want more power this is the way to do it. Financially it does not stack up. ALso the hassle of keeping the water / (methanol?) tank filled up too.

We know someone who has a pair of GMR converted V8 Vantages - one early 4.3l car which was one of the first cars converted, used daily and done quite a lot of miles. They've just bought a GT8 and had that converted as well. We went along to the Top Cat Racing open day last year as my Dad was looking at having it done to his V8 Vantage S Roadster, but opted to switch to a V12 Vantage S coupe last October instead.

Claimed outputs are 580bhp for the 4.3 and 600+ for the 4.7 cars. Seems a very good conversion though. Would certainly be interesting to see how they compare to the V12S once the Performance Pack has been installed - the supercharged car should be lighter and has more torque, so in theory should be quite a bit quicker.

Maybe not pretty but this is an impressive red- blooded motor car with real presence.
Sounds properly brutal.

Co-incidentally, Roger's car is available for sale. From another forum:

"How does a Gun Metal Grey 22k 2006 530BHP GMR Design Supercharged 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Sound? Its not advertised for general sale as its the Managing Directors personal car but i'm sure he wouldn't mind me selling it... "

Never was pretty but god it looks fantastic. Massive presence and aggression without looking gaudy and over the top like a lot of modern stuff does cloud9

A fair point but then you could get a 2006 4.3 for £30k and add another £18k for the supercharger.
I think you'd have to add at least another £30k for the cheapest V12, which takes it into a different bracket.

And then you'd end up with a sub £30k modified V8V that very few people would ever want to buy vs a V12V you'll easily sell for what you paid / probably make money in a few years.

Not to mention there's differences such as ceramic brakes, and the fact it's a much newer car, that add to the price difference to a V12V.

The only car I saw one of these in that really made sense was a GT8 (possibly the one mentioned earlier) at the St Athan open day. 600hp is GT12 territory, but with only an 18kg weight deficit (claimed) on the front end. The GT8 in question was manual too, so effectively the equivalent of a manual GT12 with a lighter nose. Also £18k is only an option or two on a brand new GT8 so it even made sense financially. Looked fantastic under the bonnet and I had a decent chat with the owner about it.
