The original tyre size is 185/80 r14 and i would like to replace and keep about the same rolling dia.
That's to say not rip the Exhaust System off on the first sleeping policeman (speed ramp)

It's a wide tyre for a skinny rim. I believe it's a 5j ?

Turbo was 195 on a 5.5 and it was getting towards bring over tyred.

185 is max recommended for a 5j rim.

205's can fit a 6j rim but a 5j is a tad narrow unfortunately

Your new tyre size is fine as the circumference is actually a little smaller at 9mm but a 6j to 7j is best.

I just looked in my Owners Handbook and the width is 6"jk.
What i would like to do is to have as near as possible the same rolling dia as the original 185/80 tyres.
This is to have max ground clearance and not rip off the Exhaust or Sump on the first Speed Hump.
This what i found on the net:

Tyres with maximum tyre width
for wheel: 6x14
205/45R14
205/50R14
205/55R14
205/60R14
205/65R14
205/70R14
205/75R14

Tyre widths you can fit to the rim width: 6"

Minimum tyre width
175

Ideal tyre width
185,
195

Maximum tyre width
205
Thanks for your ideas
Alan

A 205 width tyre can be fitted to a 6j wheel
205 70 r14 dia =642.6mm
185 80 r14 dia =651.6mm
With the new tyres fitted your car will sit 4.5mm lower to the ground

I currently have 205/70-14 on my 3000S with T-slots. In the past I ran 215/60-14. I had better traction with them and it is lower and looks more aggressive. The only problem is they make the car more prone to dragging over speed bumps. I will probably go back to the 215/60 the next time I need tires.

I've gone with 205x60x15 for our early M. Really wanted a little taller sidewall, but was getting closer than I wanted to the chassis in front of the rear tyre.
