Surprised there's no thread on this. Diesels are getting bad press at the moment - does that mean they're best avoided ?

My specific circumstances are that I'm thinking of replacing my old Range Rover Sport (owned 9 years, added 125k miles in that time, lots of it towing and/or across fields so yes I do need a proper 4x4), and rather like the newer model now that second hand prices are more affordable, but am wary of the costs of going for a petrol version.

Get the diesel you'll be fine, it's the right car for what you need smile

You haven't done a search have you? wink

I would go diesel as well, unless you are going to spend a lot of time driving in London or other bigger cities, and even then if you go Euro6 you will be ok for a few years yet.

Can you even get a petrol?

There is some debate in the US with full sized pickups that are used as farm trucks to pull stuff about as to whether petrol is any more expensive to own than diesel.

I suspect Pick-ups like the Hiliux will escape diesel taxes etc for the moment being commercial vehicles.
