They look like Momo alloys though I forget the specific model name.

Actually seen this one up close a few years back at some of the Scottish Italian Car meets, was a really clean example inside and out.
Good call - Momo Arrows?

The article mentions the 5 speed 20vt tops out at 149mph? I seem to remember these being 155mph in the brochure and press packs, same as the 6 speed cars?

That's what I thought. The 6 speed had shorter 3rd, 4th & 5th gears I believe.

The 6 speed box has the same ratios as the 5 speed in 1st-5th and a taller gear in 6th which helps improve economy.

The 4 cyl 16v Turbo has the same engine as a Delta HF Turbo.

My HPE has the same front coupling system and it can torque steer like a greasy weasel if wet. I can never seem to get it off the line without either a) it bogging down badly or b) wheel spinning.

I nearly bought a new Turbo back in '97 but couldn't quite stretch to it, ended up with my Ibiza Cupra instead. I was 21 at the time and I could tell the salesman was not happy letting me test drive the Turbo, kept moaning whenever I put my foot down.

I had a 5 cylinder N/A and had a glorious time in the Alps. Loved that warble. I must of been brave / foolish as had no breakdown cover.

I loved her but she did let me down on numerous occasions. Clutch slave cylinder failed on me in the middle of a roundabout, throttle cable snapped on A46 and had to get one made up as couldn't source one from anywhere. A couple of engine sensors went kaput so she wouldn't start properly. Finally as I was driving home from work something terminally went wrong and the drivers wheel fell off and she was written off !

Despite all these faults it was a great practical car and I would have another.

The Final Drive was shorter on the 6 speed. Quoted top speed was always 155mph on both gearboxes.

Final Drive Ratio: 3.110
1st Gear Ratio: 3.800
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.235
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.520
4th Gear Ratio: 1.156
5th Gear Ratio: 0.914

Final Drive Ratio: 3.176
1st Gear Ratio: 3.800
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.235
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.520
4th Gear Ratio: 1.156
5th Gear Ratio: 0.914
6th Gear Ratio: 0.816

Ah ok. That makes sense. Was trying to Google the ratios for both boxes before I responded to earlier posts but Google didn't want to cooperate.

I like what Bangle did to the car industry in the 1990's. They were all flat and boring. Even the best looking cars of the time, at best, had some nice curves but little else going on. Smooth and soulless.

He added depth and design and brought them to the present.

Regarding torque steer, I have never been in a Coupe let alone driven one, but physics are physics, if one shaft is longer than the other, which they are in FWD cars, one wheel will have more power than the other and pull harder than the other.

I guess the amount it torque steers usually depends on how hard you hold on to the wheel lol.

They have always been an awkward looking car and time certainly hasn't been kind to them especially when compared to the Alfa GTV V6.

rofl That's a topic of debate that's been rumbling on for the last 20 years! They were both marmite cars in their day, in my opinion the Alfa was an ugly wedge shaped duckling and the Fiat was a beautiful swan smile

I saw a GTV on the road a few days ago for the first time in years, must be pretty rare now?

I love mine, I've had it 14 years. It is important to recognise the stories about Fiat reliability though - the engine went on it last year after only 198600 miles, and all gentle miles, the failure occurred on a timed run at a Hillclimb event.
'only' 198600' miles? that's some serious miles though. And all gentle miles? Except the last timed run at a Hillclimb event? Or did you take that gentle too? ;-) And you bought it new?
Of course I only drive it gently - I never rev beyond the redline when using it competitively! For the last 4 years it has primarily been a hillclimb car so, whilst not many miles overall, they have all been pretty hard on the car.

I din't buy it new, it was about 5 years old when I got it with 34k miles on the clock.

I've seen this very well kept & gradually bespoked version around Edinburgh for a few years now.
Still looks special.

Nice period alloys but can't remember the name of them? I had OZ Super Ts on my coupe, as I was never fond of directional alloys.
They might be the wheels off the Fiat Stilo - they can be fitted to the 20VT with some spacers apparently and are a cheap way to upgrade to 17 inch wheels
