That's the whole email
There's a few lines of the email obscured by the Thumbsnap stuff.

Anytime I've done tax online it gave a license start date but then again I've always done it in advance so it might be slightly different.
Not on mine. Bike was Sorn at the time.

I would assume it's from the 1st May then. I know everytime I've done it it has said a license start date and duration.

I'm sure you'll be OK
Although I don't know why you would get the " unable to tax due to SORN" because firstly your car isn't SORN , it's untaxed, which is different.

Not really any excuse these days as you can check both tax and MOT due dates online in an instant.

Surely it'll have gone back to 1st March? I'll be amazed if it hasn't.

Only a court can fine you. DVLA may well issue a penalty.

That's what I would have thought, hence why I was asking what's the license start date as I know emails I've received and while going through the process it's been given.

I wasn't implying you were making an excuse, I was just stating that it's very easy to check so you don't have to remember or rely on reminders.

Or just do it for 12 months next time and then it will coincide with your MOT unless they let you off with the couple of months.

I wouldn't worry too much about it
There are people who get these types of letters all the time and nothing happens to them. The headline fines are just headlines to scare you.

Worst that will happen in you have to pay the back tax.

I think he'll get an £80 fixed penalty.

I did something similar OP, taxed a privately bought car on the green slip and then didn't realise I hadn't received the V5 (post registered to my parents as the car often lives there and I move around a fair bit)

Phoned the DVLA when I realised I hadn't had a reminder about a month after the tax expired (car was in storage) and no one could find the V5, it turned out the address was slightly wrong. Taxed it there and then over the phone and the corrected V5 turned up a couple of days later

So what was the outcome did you get a fine or fixed penalty?
