Bookmarked so I can't return in a few weeks to find out the case fell apart as expected.

The only thing that worries me slightly with this case is the OP describing how the car drove faultlessly etc. It shouldn't matter etc etc but maybe the wrong judge on the wrong day?
Without going back and reading the sellers exact words, at the time of sale wasnt it as good as he claimed?
it was only afterwards that some faults appeared, but thats what can happen when you buy anything.
If its new or from a trader there are guarantees. Privately there arent, which is why its cheaper
The guy put 2-3k miles on it, THEN complained there's an issue...!

If this doesn't get thrown out then the magistrate/judge needs their head examined, but OP it'd be worth getting proper advice on this lest you do something daft and lose.

I'd be amazed not disappointed!
I am sure I read about a similar case that found in favour of the buyer.

The disappointment will be because we will be seeing a worrying drift towards supporting vexatious claimants.
^This.

There have been 3 disappointing cases on MSE where people who sold cars and a decade+ old motorhome, were taken to Court and surprisingly lost. The comments in support were much like on this thread: "buyer beware/sold as seen/caveat emptor/they'll never stand a chance" etc. And the buyers convinced the judge and won. I'd argue that there's a little of the judge getting out on the wrong side that day but also judges seem to be switching a little against all this caveat emptor bullst.
Without going into those isnt that where the seller is trying to get rid of a pile of junk and dresses it up so it appears to be gold
The most remarkable one I can remember was a car with an alleged dodgy gear selector. By the time it got to court the buyer had sold the car. There was no evidence the buyer had had the car fixed.

The Judge awarded the buyer damages and based the amount on the sellers estimate of how much it would cost to fix IF the alleged fault actually existed!

Posting just for updates. I'm interested to see how one of these cases concludes.

OP, please do not bugger off/delete the thread etc before conclusion, like the guy in a parallel case with a Range with a busted gearbox. It reflected badly on him IMO, and probably wound anyone contributing to the thread right up.
Wondered what happened to that, it was deleted?rolleyes
the OP requested it be shut down
Thanks for the update. I spent *hours* looking for it. Was there an outcome, did he win? I was invested in that thread and was rooting for him.
No outcome. I recall some were pressuring him RE if he was looking to be a car trader (he'd previously penned a thread - think of a car dealer name for a 'friend' ) and he got bothered and asked the mods to shut it down. Very annoying.

We all get very excited when there's lot of back and forth but If these things do go to court it's quite normal for it to take 6-9mths or even longer, so there's typically many months where nothing happens.

I'm always amused by comments to buyers on here with a dispute that they should sue, as if it's going to take 5 minutes to get their money back.

Someone on that thread is clearly the Mrs X off this thread....

Either that or they've misread the thread title as "Who Can Act The Biggest Sanctimonious Helmet On The Entire Internet - Big Cash Prizes For The Winner"

Love this quote
Regular traders trying to make an honest living and standing over their cars are getting stiffed because they are having to compete on price with these "driveway traders" who dont pay tax, VAT, insurance or stand over their cars.

When did car traders become honest!!!

Its the biggest trade for money laundering and crime going!!
