A number of BMW's I've sold have then reappeared later on with much less miles.

Really annoys me as i am anal with my history and log everything, even stuff i do myself on my older cars i have always done a home service sheet and put it with the history (yes sad i know!).

So i am guessing they shave a few miles off and throw a lot of the history away or stamp a new false book, pure greed to make a few quid but takes away the cars character and history.
The number of times I've seen main dealers (let alone Indie's) throw away the history as all they want is the service book and V5 just staggers me. Its simply a microcosm of the motor trade unfortunately. Leopards and spots.

When I bought my current car 3 years ago from a small private garage, they gave me a folder with all the previous 2 owners service receipts so I could see that the service book stamps were genuine. Even a receipt for the tyres it was currently wearing & a new battery in the key fob aswell.

If this car is advertised at anything less than 109000 IT HAS BEEN CLOCKED. I owned this far for over 2 years, selling it in April 2017 to a dealer who came to my house to buy it. It DID NOT have a full service history so if it is sold with one that is not the case - BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

Been looking for a nice 640D for quite some time now and saw this on autotrader

A quick search reveals it was on 110K back in April 2017.

I've reported it to autotrader with no avail.

How do people still get away with this sh*t

I dont think it is anything like as widespread as it was years ago.....the "at risk" cars are ones on PCP or lease deals between 0-3 years old prior to their first MOT.

So easy to look at MOT history these days, you would have thought it would have all but eliminated the problem for over 3 year old stuff
No I don't think it's as widespread However if you were sufficiently shady and, more to the point, could be bothered you could have a digital " mileadjust" before each MOT

Guys - please share this. This car is back for sale on autotrader under a different reg R28 KAS. The mileage is the same clocked mileage it was being advertised before at 86000 - the wording of the ad is the same. I even recognise some scuffs on the bumper and marks on the leather seats - this is the same car

Well spotted! I’ve just posted this - I sold this car in April with over 110,000 on the clock and without a full service history to a dealer down south. I’d owned the car since it has done 20k and did 40k a year in it. I knew it was my old car as soon as I spotted it. I’ve reported it to AT. Makes my blood boil!!!

I’ve contacted autotrader and they’ve taken the ad down. Hope not to see this CLOCKED BMW 640d BL12 FZF BL12FZF or being offered for sale recently on R28 KAS R28KAS being offered for sale again with fraudulent mileage and service history. I sold this car in April 2017 with 110k on the clock with a part service history. Since selling it it is being sold with 86k on the clock and a full service history.

R28 KAS is on an Audi TT with an expired MOT. Probably just stuck the plates on for the pics?

Can you contact the rozzers or trading standards? Or do they not give a damn?

They don’t give a damn.

It’s advertised here too - with a mobile number for the seller

Its staggering how easy it is. I'm PXing my BMW F10 530d with 100000 on the clock but it looks half that. Not something I'd do but given the 'over-mileage' charges on some PCP deals I would imagine a lot more of this is going on than used to be the case. I'm guessing more than a couple of private motorists have had the mileage 'corrected' in the last year of ownership to bring the mileage within the 12000 a year or whatever was agreed.

Interesting aside my Father in Law sold V12 E-Type DUO301L in 1986 with 88000 on the clock.
It turned up for sale again in the early 1990's with only 54000 on it.
Last seen in 2002 in the JEC club magazine for sale with 32000 miles.

Must be driven everywhere backwards!
