Regardless if he gets his licence back or not. No insurance company is going to touch him in anything other than a twin air panda.

Presumably he needs the licence back to work his job as a Megamind impersonator.

If he’s well off, which seemed to be the case at the time of the crash, that’s not going to stop him. He’ll find cover somewhere, it’ll just cost a pretty packet.

Dont the insurance company ask something like "any accident, claims or convictions in the last 5 years?"

Hes maybe outside of that now / soon.

I've followed this story on and off ever since seeing the footage of him hurtling down that road. It was sheer good-fortune that he didn't hit anyone coming the other way (I don't rate their chances of survival). When I saw this new story, out of interest I thought I might just stick his reg. number (the private one that was on his M2) into a reg. checker. Luckily for us all it's only attached to a 350bhp 2017 3.0 Audi S5 now.....
Just absolutely staggering.

Do we know the reg still belongs to him?

And to be fair if he really has learned nothing he will get into trouble in a Panda. Whereas if he is now driving sensibly the Audi will be fine. Has he been in trouble again?

He won’t be driving sensibly.

I remain appalled he’s back on the road.

That is a different issue though, as opposed to what car is he driving.

Why don’t we have any teeth with bans? Why can’t we just ban these s for life?

He shouldn’t be driving anything. I can’t believe the conversation is even a thing.

It should have been a life ban.

Apparently it’s because there no way to rehabilitate and also with nothing to lose they would just drive anyway.

The answer is that if they flout a life ban they go to prison for life instead. Might focus their simple minds a bit.

Those saying ban for life, do you think you are the same person, the same type of driver, have the same appetite for risk at age 40, 50, 60 etc than when you were 22?

No, but I didnt try to recreate the speeder bike scene from The Empire Strikes back with a BMW M2 at 100 plus mph.

I wouldnt think that he will be eager to repeat that, he did spend months in hospital and I would image still has pain from that, plus he nearly killed his girlfriend, doing it once is bad enough but repeating similar antics after all that pain, cost and ridicule would be pretty special.

I don’t care. I certainly didn’t do anything remotely as stupid as he did and neither did the vast majority of us. It’s a mindset that we should not want to risk being in charge of a vehicle ever again.

His sheer arrogance in going begging for his licence back early shows clearly that he’s not changed a bit. Any genuinely remorseful person in that position would just quietly sit the ban out, at the very least. If it were me I’d never drive again, regardless of what any court said.

At the very least he should have served the ban in full. The fact he didn’t tells you all you need to know. Any of us could meet him on the road at any time and who knows what he might be tempted to do to show off again. I resent being put at this sort of risk.

I do not agree with the ban for life but yes i was 22 yrs old a long time ago, i drove a mk 2 cortina with 64hp so yes it did get to 50 eventually....

that is the big difference. even the boggo spec mini is a 100 hp where as 20-30 years ago the average car had 60hp

You've got me thinking back to when I used to play The Empire Strikes Back game in the arcades now with that! hehe

Everyone makes mistakes. Young male drivers often make mistakes and have accidents early on. I know that I did.

Limiting vehicle power in the first few years would be sensible, especially with EVs offering far greater speed and acceleration than typical first cars of the past.

These days, first-time drivers or young drivers also tend to have newer, nicer cars rather than old bangers.

I wrote my first car off through a lack of experience and young male stupidity, but I definitely learnt from it though. I couldn't afford to buy another car after that, so I was back on my pushbike until I'd saved enough money up to buy another one.

I thought that I certainly don't want to be in that position again, so it calmed me right down behind the wheel for sure.
