All the plastic on that Rover reminded me that it's years since I've seen a Transit Flareside.

There's one on eBay - over thread budget, but appears to be in surprisingly good condition.

Quite tempted by a 1994 Cavalier 1.8i LS for £1650...

What's really geeky and which I hadn't notoced before is that the tacho is labelled as "x1000 min-1" ...

And why do modern cars not have the fuel gauge calibrated in litres?

Also ABS badge on tailgate is class!

I never understood flaresides. There were loads in the USA when I was over there and I couldn't help but think that there's loads of wasted space just for the square bed shape. Surely it would be better to have a larger bed with the wheel arches protuding inside it? That way you maintain a larger area for storage.

Plus they always looked weird.

The proper old ones were called step sides - for a reason - they had a convenient step built in.

They also looked better - these Transit flaresides are ugly IMO

It depends what you carry - most pick ups rarely carry a full load and wheel arches make loading boards / pallets a pain.

EDIT - Step / Flare actually seems to be a difference in Chevy / Ford terminology

I love these little Renault 5 monacos. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-5-MONACO-SPECIA...redfaceYwAAOSwrL9duvv8&redirect=mobile

Shame it's auto and would look absolutely no different if the photos were taken with a sepia filter
I thought they were all auto's - not a renault fan but I've never seen a manual version

That seems well priced. I also like the Clio alternative as it had the peppy 1.8, this low mile example is priced so high as to not likely be driven, which is a shame. Small, posh, nippy, leathery, what's not to like? £4k Baccara, but only 10k on it.

Even better than the Monaco. What a cool little thing. You don’t seem to get these little cars with a luxury spec any more in the same way.
Back in the day ex wife no1 had a 1.8 Clio very similar to this car, but no leather. Was quite nippy, nearly as nippy as the ex when she buggered off smile

It had quite a low guide on it so I can only assume it must have been a bit tatty close up.

This used to be mine for £1880, I believe the cheapest running and driving 205 GTI in the UK at the time. As far as I know it's being nut and bolt restored in Wales now

That dealer usually has at least 1 interesting car on his forecourt.

A similar, if slightly older proposition. Look at the interior! https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1173938

A 1.8, eh? A friend's mum had a 1.6 and it was colloquially known as 'The Rocket', felt far faster that any of it's peers in our 17/18yo group. The 1.8 must feel like a Tesla laugh

The condition of this vehicle is exceptional and is virtually unmarked throughout the interior and exterior.

Possibly? I guess if the driver got fed up with themselves for leaving them on so decided to go overboard on the fix for it?

Yeah didn’t some cars of this vintage have indicators that didn’t self cancel?
