Lovely to see such attention to presentation and photography when it's 'just' a £2k car

My local dealers don't make that effort for a £20k sale

For some reason, I have a massive urge to buy this, leave it looking exactly as it is but fit some modern tyres, upgrade the brakes and fit a Clio 172 engine. It that is at all even possible.

That's wonderful. I'd never heard of these before but now I want that more than my own organs.

I feel like I've posted this exact car before, back when it was in focus. Still want it now
I've been looking at A2s recently. I know very little about them. They seem to take some hefty mileages.
They're really cool quirky little cars. But I think you need to be careful checking the car out before you buy.

I've read some owners' reports where the car has been great, and other reports where the car has been hard work to keep in good shape, with lots of niggly little faults and bespoke parts which turn out to be NLA.
I sold my Seat Leon (was the first delivered to a customer from my dealer - a sad claim to fame..) which was a great car but I was naive and wanted to buy into a premium brand but it was a bad experience. The dealer eventually agreed to replace my A2 with another (both brand newl but that had different problems to the first. Some of the issues were bonnet flap thing that would open, ignition barrel failed, wheel bearing failed, EGR problems, radio wouldn't receive a signal, more that I can't remember. To be fair to the car, a lot of the problems were the dire service from the Audi dealer and Audi UK but it was a lot of issues for new a new car(s).

The car was nice, small and fairly firm round corners, went OK for a 1.4 as was so light, would wobble side to side with the wipers on.

They seem to be popping up for sale more now, maybe people have held onto them and only now trading up.
Some of the diesel A2 aren't ULEZ compliant, the petrol 1.4 engine is. I;ve noticed a lot of diesel up for sale and petrol ones going for stronger money. A few years ago the diesel was a premium in London.

I have a 1.4 A2 SE and it's a brilliant well designed car. For moving stuff around it's like a little van with the back seats removed.

Feels like that’s been for sale forever and I’m not sure why, it’s so cool and not a lot of money

What a beautiful little car! I love the idea of a restomod. It would have to look exactly the same though as it has amazing patina.

Hmm. Some lateral thinking needed. I can't think of another rear wheel drive Renault that would have a suitable amount of performance. The engine bay looks too narrow for a Nissault 3.5 V6.

Can someone with suitable Renault beardage confirm or deny that the 1400 cc lump that Volvo borrowed for the rear wheel drive 340 is the same basic engine as the one used in the Renault 5 Turbo? Would that engine somehow work?

Or would you just shove a Zetec or Vauxhall lump in there?

It has definitely appeared on one of these GG threads in the past year or so. Great looking thing.

Another quirky Gaul:

Avantime
2002
143k miles
3.0 V6 manual
£3k

Not presented in the most encouraging of manners. Couldn't be bothered rolling it out of the driveway.
