I really don't see the problem with this, sure it's expensive, 5x the cost of a minty original classic mini.

But then a singer is many times the cost of a minty air cooled porker, an eagle e-type, ditto.

There is the Abingdon MG too, bloody pricey.

But you're paying for what amounts to a spanky new classic car, I get it, I really hope the trend continues and wealthy types continue to buy these things.

If I had a few million I'd probably get one to pop to the shops in or as a station car!
At least the Singer drives as beautifully as it looks.

"a lot of rich people are going to buy this car"

I don't think they are. Rich people don't usually become rich by being stupid, which you'd have to be to blow a hundred grand on one of these.

Wasn't this article on Pistonheads just 4 or 5 weeks ago?

Maybe a re-hashed article but there's already a thread running here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=16...

And we all know how people on P'Heads hate duplicate threads wink

As said by previous posters, the reason a Singer is "worth" it is because there is real engineering going on. They take the charm of the original car, and re-engineer it properly to modern standards of fit and finish. This Mini sounds like a right lash up, which frankly most of the usual Mini tuners would be embarrassed to have made, let alone a company that trades on "bespoke quality"........

So they've fitted an engine that's awful, AC that doesn't work very well, LED lights that don't suit the car, and an ICE system that's not even close to being a good fit with the cars period and character. Well done you, where do i sign........ ;-)

You recon? There are thousands of people to whom 100 grand isnt worth the effort of bending over to pick up if they dropped it, and those are the target market, those who dont really think of 100 grand as being significant. Footballers, kids of oligarchs, lottery winners, many people. Its not a car in the sense ph people see it, its a trinket, they might buy it and forget to get around to driving it.

I like how Minis look, and they are fun for a short occasional drive, but mostly my memories of them being utter dung heaps, some people have that much money it makes no odds, if they want it, they will have it, deal with folk like that and provide them something they want, you will make money. They want exclusivity, and if that means a restored, retrained mini with some questionable rear lights, then so be it, they will most likely buy it, drive it for a bit, realise it is bloody hard work then it will gather dust.

I think people are too kind about original minis because they are cute, the metro shared a lot of components and was arguably better in lots of ways, but it wasn't cute, it's like why the WWF have a Panda for a logo, not some frog that looks like it was born inside out.

"Personality goes a long way", Mini had it in spades, Metros looked like a motorised pedal bin.

Good luck to DBA, hope they sell really well, after all, it is a British institution and money flowing into the country.

The comparison with singer is a good one.
This car is nothing like what singer achieve.
I look at this being more like the cars that Harold Radford used to make - its a way to spunk a load of cash on an ordinary car.

I'm a bit confused about this car.

If it's about bring a classic upto date whilst retaining the original charm, ala singer porsche, then it falls at a few hurdles. The MMI interface, the A/C and gopping rear lights (which look like they were lifted from a Demon Tweaks catalagoue circa. 1998) don't fit in with a resto mod character, it should have original lights with maybe LEDs inside them, and a period looking radio unit that still connects to your phone (they are available, big in the VW Beetle scene).

If it's intention is to be a classic looking car with modern creature comforts and underpinnings, why stick with the original (albeit heavily updated) engine and gearbox? If you're going to stick LED lights and sat nav in the car, why not a 1.0 ecoboost or similar revvy engine and slick gearbox for both nipping round town and motorway driving? Even though it is revised, surely the old engine is still just an old engine with it's associated niggles and issues regardless.

I don't really see the problem with it; I wouldn't spend 100k on a Mini (or indeed on any car), but if other people would then good luck to them.

As the A series engine is one of the nastiest I've ever experienced I can't believe they didn't replace it for a few extra grand.

could have at least dropped a 16v head onto the a series for that kind of cash. iirc its a bmw bike head is an easy conversion, some modern management and throttle bodies it could have been a hoot

edit

seems KAD do a ready to fit off the shelf 16v conversion, 190-200bhp in a mini smilesmile
