could have at least dropped a 16v head onto the a series for that kind of cash. iirc its a bmw bike head is an easy conversion, some modern management and throttle bodies it could have been a hoot

edit

seems KAD do a ready to fit off the shelf 16v conversion, 190-200bhp in a mini smilesmile

Rob, dont think the target market would appreciate it, would be wasted.

If I was going to pedal £100k minis, I'd get the bloody thing finished before giving it to a journo to test. Rear lights totally OTT. A Series hopeless. This car at the very least deserves 16 valves and a modern gearbox.

I think the engineering / engine points are good ones.. For 100k, there are some excellent options to bring the A-series forward about 5 decades. 16v heads etc have been around for decades and should be a 'given' when selling the car at nudging 6 figures..

I like it whether I'd part with 100k is another matter.

It's the car the Cygnet should have been.

Having tried to make a 'better' DB5, David Brown Automotive picked an easier target from the AM back catalogue...

£100k and it doesn't have the ultimate-edition 2.0TDi engine plus a flappy-paddle gearbox?

No sale sir, no sale.

A Ford Ecoboost would be perfect.

A shell is under £10k.

I'd imagine you could build something like this for between £40k and £50k, how can they justify another £50k?

Remastered? Make that ruined. Lazy and poorly executed effort.

Contributing to the "but you could get a Mini with x, y and z for half that" posts - my favourite is the ongoing "Project Binky" Mini by Bad Obsession Motorsport.

In short, they are transplanting the engine and running gear from a Celica GT-4 into a Mini... but doing a proper job about it. There's a series of videos on YouTube of the work to date, but it's not finished yet.

This was one of the cars I was looking after at the London City Concours. I spoke to the makers about the car for some time and looking round the car, it's finished to a really high standard. Judging by the clientele at the event, it will end up being an addition to their already impressive Car collection for the man who has everything. Would I pay £100k for one? Not a chance. Ferrari all the way! Haha.

If you're even thinking about it in terms of value for money... you're not the target customer. If you're thinking you could buy other things with that cash, or get a Mini built to the same spec for 10% the price... you're not the target customer.

The target customer is extremely wealthy and doesn't think twice about spending 100k on a little car. That's far less hassle to them than organising a Mini resto, and as a car is far more desirable than a Fiat 500 special edition or a new Mini, which is all it's competing with really. The customer wants a chic, pretty, but high-spec little runaround and what it costs is essentially irrelevant - it's just nobody has made a car like that which can successfully command a price like this yet. I think DBA have managed it with this luxury retro kick society is on at the moment: right product, right time.

This is a banker's 23 year old girlfriend's car. Or a CEO's daughter. They'll sell as many as they can make.
Hmm, not so sure. If I had a hot 23 year old girlfriend, I wouldn't put her in a car tested to 1960s crash standards that will have her legs off above the knee if she stacks it at moderate speed. Ditto for offspring of the super rich who tend to drive like dheads so need all the crash safety they can get.

£99,999 yeah right... i agree with you on taillights.

Mini is huge fun, i loved driving mine at 10/10th, even policemen stopped me and telling me off for cornering too fast.
