David Beckham promoting Tudor watches
Discussion
Paid personality "endorsement". Just how dumb do you have to be to think "Oooh, I want one because ol' Golden Ball's think's it's good." ?
a/ No he doesn't, he's just paid to say so.
b/ Well he's hardly an expert, so his opinion isn't worth any more than mine
& c/ WGAS?
Desperate attempt by Tudor to raise their image just appears to be desperate to me.
It must work, or manufacturer's wouldn't do it.
Nothing wrong with the watches mind.

Who'd have believed that using a well known celebrity would help in selling what you're advertising.a/ No he doesn't, he's just paid to say so.

Really has it though? Lewis Hamilton and Tinie Tempah represent Mercedes, I would still buy one!
Taylor swift is the brand ambassador for diet coke, wouldn't stop me from buying it!
I had to google the coke one!!
I wouldn't buy a Mercedes, no, but that's because I don't really like their cars Taylor swift is the brand ambassador for diet coke, wouldn't stop me from buying it!

I don't like Diet Coke either, hardly ever drink the stuff - Furs up my teeth!
Neither has anything to do with who represents them though, because I was unaware (except that Hamilton drives for Mercedes, but that's because he's a good race driver I presume) of their representation.
Beckham may have been a decent footballer in his time, but that doesn't mean I'd wear the watch he's wearing this week (And as others have said he's a notorious 'brandwe' in the watch area - Maybe he just loves watches and appears in the ads for the love of the watch, who knows?).
Clearly watch makers feel that association with a 'celeb' gets them buyers, but Beckam's not someone I'd want to emulate, so I'd be dissuaded from any product he promotes, even if it was one I was interest in before. I MAY still buy something, but it'd be a negative association for me.
This particular association seems odd though. The Black Bay design seems to be about understated style - Not something you'd ever say about Beckham...
Hamilton's ability behind the wheel are why he's employed by Mercedes. Tiny Pencil, less so I suspect...

I love the AP Messi but no matter how lovely it was, I would never buy a watch with a celebrity name on the back.
If I liked chronographs enough, I’d be all over that Leo Messi AP – the tantalum bezel is lovely, and both the grey and blue dials work well with it.I get where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t let something like that put me off what my eyes widened at.
The only reference is on the case back, which you can’t see on your wrist, so maybe don’t be so hasty to cut your nose off to spite your face?

Kinda put me off Tudors now.
Yep...M
I wasn't impressed with the quality of Tudor recently. The bezel was just crap. I am a Rolex fan though and it looked like they were trying to visibly justify the cost difference between Rolex and Tudor.
What Seiko did you get for six quid? Or do you mean Casio?
On topic, funny this thread has come up. I noticed a Beckham ad on the telegraph website yesterday. Screenshot it and forwarded it to a Tudor owning mate... he's mortified
As a poster above, I also thought they were about understated style. No more it seems.
Time for a 'dram' of Haig club eh what!

Sorry, I meant Casio, I knew it ended in o.....£6.60 inc p&p.
I can appreciate the precision workings of an Omega, Breitling or Patek Philippe etc, and I could afford to buy one, but if all you want to is tell the time it's enough to pay.
