And so forth. Ive never seen anything at all in the boot of the ones ive seen. Is it a new fashion statement?

The reason im wound up is ive had 3 park next to me recently and they are huge, i can barely open my door to get in, theres one that parks on the estate which takes up the equivalent of 2 spaces aswell.
Navaras and Rangers you say. Huge, you say.

Tax reasons
More comfortable than a Defender - LR lost a lot of their rural market years ago if you want something basic.
The new ones ride really nicely and IMO look quite good
Cheaper fuel costs with oil at $50/bl rather than $100/bl

Loved my L200 but it was a pain in tight parking areas.

Run a Vito for work now but will most likely trade it in for an X-class once they're out and established.

There's a weird swinger club on the A1 near me, called the Vanilla lounge, I drove past tonight on the way home, I've never seen it open before but tonight there were 4 vehicles in the car park. All pick ups, I'll stick to my hatchback I think!

Yes, they've launched a double cab pickup called the Fullback. Comes with all the toys, nav, bluetooth etc, at a great price. I've driven one and it's great value up against the Nissans and Mitsubishis.

Pfffft

My point was that the vehicles mentioned are not really huge at all.

A good few dheads seem to be driving these at the moment. Yet to see one that isn't pristine and driven by some angry gorilla 'dominating' the road.

Everybody here has a pickup in the household (fleetrolleyes) , my F150 seats 6 comfortably , and is just as happy on the highway as it is on a trail . Fuel at 99c/55p per litre why not enjoy a thumping V8 .

you sound like a cretin, I apoligies for my rudness. why does anyone buy anything ? necessity or because they just want. Hey you welcome to the world of erm........... freedom? you sound like a NIMBY and also not much fun at parties, try and relax into life a bit you might find it more fun, rather than worrying about someones vehicle choice. oh yeah I own one of these.................................handy bits of kit for towing diggers etc. unfortunaltly I can't justfy 2 cars for myself so when I have go into town and rub shoulders with the great unwashed I have to take my pickup, very tedious.

It's a rebadged Mitsubishi L200. Only problem with that is the Fiat "Professional" brand you may have to deal with. I'd still buy the Mitsubishi and enjoy the customer service - we've had recalls on Mrs V's Mitsubishi (Takata airbag etc) and even though the car is 8 years old and we never bought it from them we've had the car booked in, fixed, washed, vacuumed and given a courtesy car. I'd seriously consider another Mitsub in future.

I quite like the look of some of these pickups. My two great danes would fit in the back. It's a toss up between a pickup and a Viano.
Some pickups are driven by asshats, but then so are almost every type of car if you want to see something to confirm a stereotype.
Personally, I've come across far more dhead drivers in luxury 4x4s than I have in pickups (Range Rovers and Q7s seem particularly bad).

They really aren't all that new. And they really aren't everywhere either. There are lots more cars than pickups on the roads.

And yes they are long. But probably no wider than many cars these days.

And there are big cars too. An Audi A8 is up to 4" wider and actually longer than some of the pickups.

Navara:

£200 road tax
Park it anywhere without fear of door dings.
Its not scared of high kerbs or potholes.
Saved a fortune of either having to pay bulk load deliveries, skip hire or van rental.
Ton of topsoil in the back.
Quick change accessories for carrying bikes or ladders.
Cost me a set of rear pads, 1 spring and a wiper in 3 years.
Well enough equipped to cover for the family steed when is off sick, it;s a Disco so that's a fairly regular occurrence.
Doesn't come with the stresses of ownership of that the fast and pretty one it replaced.

Without wishing to stereotype. Couldn't that be a pretty accurate description of almost any VAG Vehcile and driver. Certainly the ones with Audi and VW badges at any rate.
