When you live in a quiet area with little or no traffic except one of the neighbours going out, why oh why do they insist parking on the pavement……..

I'm afraid the answer is "because they can" - it's become accepted, the norm. They think they're helping by not blocking the road......

Its become normalised hasn't it. Depressing really. The right of way of the car trumps all other access.

The sooner pavement parking is an offence nationwide the better. then there will be no confusion

Unfortunately, like many 'simple' solutions, an outright ban would simply lead to other problems like blocked roads

Yes, like roads too small for each house to have multiple cars. The answer then is, get used to parking away from your house or have fewer cars or move. Pavements should be protected safe zones. Roads should not be blocked. I know this is a car forum but personal property should not really be purchased if the owner has nowhere to keep it. Simple really.

Harsh but true. We've seen it down here, multiple small apartments with 1 spot but 2 or 3 cars. Fighting over who can stand where.
When I moved house I made sure I could have 3 cars there.

So only people with off street parking can have cars? See how your simple idea isn't really that simple!!

Not quite..

Get used to parking away from your house
OR
Have fewer cars that fit your offroad parking.
OR
Move

Flip it around - what is your proposal? Park on pavements? Block the road? Or park elsewhere?

It is harsh, I agree, but I don't see any other solution. We are talking about private property storage trumping the right of way for vulnerable pedestrians (etc) on pavements. Thats ridiculous. In the context of providing safe passage for pedestrians, pedestrian safety should win. Cars getting blocked is actually a good thing within limits too, as it enforces slower traffic on side streets. The downside to that is blocking of emergency vehicles and also recently seen idiots then using the pavement as an additional lane to avoid gridlock.

I love cars, I love owning a car. I think there are too many cars for the available storage. Something has to give.

I propose no changes whatsoever to the current system! Its working, yes selfish thoughtless idiots exist but that will always be the case, the vast majority of people can and do park properly.

Not if they park on the pavement. That is not parking properly.

How many HGVs do you see parked on the street?
You cannot get an operator’s licence unless you have off road parking, so yes, it really is that simple.

Unfortunately, if you tell people the answer to THEIR problem is to park further away, they will do so in the next nearest spot, which then moves the bubble out and into those areas that previously didn’t have a parking problem.

And so on, and so forth, until everyone is even more unhappy.

Daughter is away with work this week. She messaged me this morning from her hotel spitting feathers about how someone has parked on her little Audi.
That little car has previously been subjected to a £7k insurance claim after another dozy driver shunted it through a fence while it was parked, marking every panel. So she's quite protective of it despite it being a company car.

What was the outcome?

In case its the usual case of a PH member not closing out a story, has anyone mentioned possibility of handbrake not being applied to the astra?

hehe

There's a part I pass everyday with my little kids who ride their bikes on the pavement. The kerb is quite high and occasionally there's someone parked there which just forces them onto the street.
It happened a couple of times in a short timespan so I called the local police.
First time: "We're quite busy now, we'll see."

Day two: "We'll see if we can get someone out there."

Day three:
Police: "We'll see if we can get someone there"
Me: "How long will it take?"
Police: "We'll see if anyone can get there, at least half an hour."
Me "If I go get my car, park next to him on the street and block that completely as he's done with the pavement, how long will it take then?"
Police: "sigh....someone will be there shortly"

And they did. hehe

It’s like that in Tokyo, you have to prove you have somewhere to park it before you can buy a car. That wouldn’t work here with all the self entitled gob ste dheads we have in the western world.

Positive, the car that was their on a near daily basis didn't park there anymore. I don't know whether he got fined or warned but it worked. Tbh if I had an easy way to track down who it was I would have explained the situation myself, it was more the fact that the police saw blocking an entire pavement as no issue but blocking a street would be.

I'm sure the point of the post is your daughter is parked correctly (in addition to the contact)

however photos further out would give us the confidence that she hasnt jammed her car in a space?
Er, what?
Standard PH stuff and can be ignored. Post something like your car being hit in the car park and another poster will somehow try to make it your fault.

Still, in this instance the usually hilariously misplaced legend "That will T-Cut out" can most likely be correctly applied, so if only for that it was worthwhile uploading the pictures. thumbup
Because no one ever posts things that aren't true.

I'm keen to see in front of the Audi and behind.
Who are you saying is lying? Me or my daughter?
Why are you like this? Too much eggnog?
Don’t feed the troll.
the only troll here is you.
