We're off for a long weekend in Bruges shortly, using it as an excuse for a wine and 'baccy run. I've been there before, but was 13 at the time and my wife has never been so we're in the dark as to where to eat and enjoy a few bottles of Rodenbach Grand Cru.

Has anyone been before, and can recommend some restaurants and bars to visit?

Our hotel is pretty much smack in the middle of the town, so getting about shouldn't be a problem. We're not "full on" foodies, but are happy to try different things especially if they're representative of the locality / country. Not looking for any Michelin style places, just quality meals and a relaxed atmosphere.

Advice appreciated thumbup

Agree with that, gets very busy so book. Ribs n' Beer is also pretty good, but very small, so again, recommend booking.

Just had a squint at the Cambrinus website; now that is what I call a beer menu! Looks like a very agreeable hostelry as well.

Some bars to try:

http://www.bourgognedesflandres.be/en?gclid=CMmD__... A recently opened brewery, with a nice canalside bar
http://www.2-be.biz/en/home/ Has a good beer/food shop attached and nice outside seating
http://www.brugsbeertje.be/index_en.htm - probably the best known bar in Bruges, huge choice of beer
http://belgianbeer.wixsite.com/letrappiste
http://www.degarre.be/
http://www.halvemaan.be/en/home - Brewery, offers a tour, and the sampling room/bar does a decent lunch too.

If you like fish, try the Gouden Karpel but be warned, the only place I've had a card cloned was in a restaurant in the market place.

Apologies for joining this thread late - hope it's not too late - but I'd second the recommendation for Den Gouden Karpel. We've been to Bruges a couple of times - lovely place to visit. Our favourite restaurant there was the Park Restaurant - really fantastic food and very friendly. The other place I remember was Brasserie Raymond - very traditional brasserie and very good food.

Enjoy the trip!

Thanks for everyone's input on this one; appreciated

This time tomorrow we'll hopefully be enjoying some post-dinner beers!

I can confirm that i) the location is perfect ii) the pub decor is extremely agreeable iii) the Bourgogne de Flandres house beer is exceptionally good and iv) when we arrived for more pre-dinner drinks at 18:45-ish, it was closed irked

We'll have to re-visit Cambrinus, as this weekend it was oppressively hot inside.

We'll have to add de Garre to our next visit.

www.jilles.be serve killer burgers matched with selected beers

A lovely small bar to watch the sunset next to a canal was 't Klein Veniete (not a massive beer menu), but had Duvel / Orval / Westmalle Tripel / Chimay (all colours) and Delerium available with another two dozen more that I forget.

It is a very agreeable city, Bruges, and it'll not be long before we visit again.
