Hi all.
The passenger side door has a different lock to the driver's side, and no key.
Is there any code or reference inside the door, which would allow me to get a new key, or am I best to try to find a replacement lock and key. Assume they are Ford parts bin circa 1980, Cortina / Escort / Capri (which look pretty rare on Ebay)?
Cheers
Mark

On my '82 there was a key code stamped on the end of the lock barrel, but you have to dismantle the whole assembly (including some very awkward, tiny roll pins) to see it. A real PITA.

I reckon it might be easier to find an old style car locksmith with a huge bunch of test keys ....
As far as I know locks and handles are Escort 2, Capri 2 and Cortina 4/5 .

Or get central locking -

You can get central locking assemblies (can use existing handles) from Cortina Ghia or Granadas, if you can find any around....and there is a neat central locking module to match them, easy to wire up. I did this on mine !

I did think of a central locking kit, but I like the idea of a locksmith with a massive bunch of keys. I think I know where there is one in Coventry. Will give him a try. Cheers.

Go to the Wedgefest and get everybody to try their keys in the lock! I bet it wouldn't take long to find one that fits. Get copy made job done!
