Driving on the motorway/ Keeping left

Last Sat I did 556 miles - Aberdeen to the SE.
The inside lane is great for overtaking these days as most people seem to be glued to the outside lane, just be ready to take avoiding action when a sleeping driving re-discovers lane 1 exists.
Scotland was especially bad for this, you'd have 1 slow vehicle in lane one 1+ miles ahead, and everyone else bumbling along in lane 2 (no lane 3 as they cant afford it or work out how to use an extra lane).
Its amusing how agitated the angry ginger's get as you work your way through the long train of slow traffic.
No one can move in and out of lane 2 or 3 these days, they don't realise it only takes 3-5 seconds to move in and move back out, maybe they think their tyres will explode?

I encountered one of these fuds this evening.
Fud joined empty 3 lane DC in front of me. Immediately jumped to L2 and sat there. Nothing ahead of fud in L1.
I'm in L1 and slowly gaining. I considered going past them in L1 but my spidey senses told me not to. Sure enough as I signalled and moved L1 to L3 they moved to L1 and exited the DC.
What do these folk think L1 is for? They clearly don't think it's for them. Probably one of these "I was doing the correct speed for the lane" t

Thankfully I rarely venture onto to Motorways these days, but when I do, I tend to sit on the inside lane at a steady 65 or so... move out to overtake trucks when necessary/allow people out at junctions and then it's back into lane 1.
You may take an extra few minutes to arrive at your destination compared to sticking in lane 3 at 80+ but you'll be chilled out and relaxed when you do get there.
Zooming up to the morons doing 55 in lane 3, flashing the high beams, shouting, swearing, getting pissed off and stressed out?
No thanks.
I'll allow an extra bit of time for my journey and not let other people's poor lane discipline bother me... they'll be tucked up in bed when I decide to go for a 'proper' drive. Late night/very early morning: those are the times to enjoy driving these days.
It's a bit sad that you can't enjoy driving the same way you could even 10 years ago, but there you go. There's no point ranting and raving at things you can't control... accept that some (most) drivers are idiots, understand this fact and adapt your driving style accordingly.

I wouldn't mind people not using the slow lane if they weren't driving slower than the slow lane. I hardly see the need to drive in the other two lanes as I can often drive faster in the slow lane!

might be a spoof but then again it sounds exactly like a BMW owners mentality.I always tend to drive on the upper end of the road limit so dont usually be on the slower lanes, i always am courteous and let BMW drivers pass me out at the first opportunuty however.
I've experienced a copper taking some action on the M3 a few months back.
I joined with a Beetle in front and a 3 series behind from the A34 going southbound and she immediately forgot about lane one as most drivers seem to do. It was 21:30ish so traffic was light.
I went into lane one and overtook cars as I made steady progress whilst she stayed in lane 2 at 80 or just over.
By the time we'd got to the aplit for M27 We all took the Eastbound option and she stayed in lane 2 of 2. I'd had enough of her by this point and put my foot down to around 90-95 then sailed on by. It was when I was looking back feeling all smug I saw an orange sign light up in the windscreen of the 3 series. I couldn't read what it said but I assume it was 'keep left' or 'move over' at which point the Beetle came back into lane one and the 3 series put the hammer down and caught up with me just as we were joining the M27. Having seen the light in the window I'd slowed down to around 80 and joined with no fuss.
Had a finger wag from the copper in the passenger seat but we both went on our merry way.
