The E pace is steel though.

With regard to f type and 911, Is that little flat 6 steel then?

The F pace seems to be the sweet spot as it's lighter than its competitors.
Autocar are reporting that the E-Pace is quite a lot heavier than its competition. 1700kg is shameful. The 300bhp one takes nearly 6 seconds to 60mph!!

1700kg isn't far off the weight of my E63.
Good compact little tow car then?

But 1700kg isn't heavier than most of its competition? The X3 and GLC are both heavier than that and the Q5 is about the same. Or is this a class smaller than them?

4cyl Macan 1770kg, wheelbase 2807mm, length 4692mm

4cyl e-Pace 1832kg, wheelbase 2681mm, length 4395mm

So it's a foot shorter than a Macan but still heavier. I'd be astonished if the material quality of the interior was better than the Porsche. It's not as if the Porsche benefited from an expensive bespoke platform or anything, it's a (heavily) rehashed Audi Q5.

In the search for volume Jaguar have just "joined in" with the rest. So sad the brand was special in the old days. Now take off the badges and they all look alike. Jag/ Audi/ Merc/Kia/ you name it. Where has the adventure and difference now. Designed by Robots and driven by stereotypes on a pcp. The bubble will burst soon you know!
It is a "me too" product but one that will sell. For all their top heavy ugliness crossovers are extremely practical. The extra height is great families lifting children in and out of their child seats while it's much easier for elderly people to get in and out of them. The sport bit of SUV is the sailing dingy towed behind, the boot full of kids football kit or the bikes on the roof rack.

Think of it as a designer label hot hatch that's put on weight.

Not my cup of tea but the market wants it for more sensible reasons than an F-Type. It's also a format well suited to electric vehicles.

The thing is if I need a highly practical car for kids and old people (which I do) I'm more tempted by a second hand estate or Duster which where the inevitable knocks and spills of children don't matter. Then with the saved money have something I do like...

Why? Wasn't Jaguar a luxury car brand? How long until Rolls Royce is putting out Kadjar's and Santa Fe's?

A designer label is a brand. The luxury bit is what differentiates the E-Pace (Still a dreadful name) from the Dacia Duster which performs the crossover SUV bit quite adaquately for under 10K.

Dacia is Primark to GM's "Man at C&A".

BTW what's a Kadjar?

So the Jag is slightly better looking than the other small SUV's, weighs more, has less impressive performance and costs considerably more. Sounds like less costs and more profit, the bean counters will be happy. That said we have paused our F Pace order to consider this, so some market canabalisation is evident too but the Macan hasn't caused Porsche many problems

It's all about profit and sales though - as much as I'm looking forward to the XF wagon, I can see that this E-Pace will sell 10x as many as a sportbrake. Just look at the Cayenne/Panamera volumes, the Q7/A6 Avant, and others. Note that even BMW isn't launching an M5 wagon.
Might be in US. However atleast the 3-series sold more wagons in Europe than sedans.

I would imagine that is more because anyone who drives an RSQ3 gets out and no longer wants to actually own one! smile One of the few cars that I have ever driven that felt like it had too much power. You know when a car just feels 'uncomfortable' with what you are asking of it...even in a straight line? Floppy handing and more body roll than is acceptable in a car with that kind of performance capability.

Niche because it's a bit on the crap side, I suspect. wink

15 years ago maybe, but I'm not convinced that's the case any more. People just buy an SUV if they want extra space....

A Duster in a new party frock?

I can't help thinking the heavily styled crossovers are dating fast and will continue to do so.

The original Nissan Qashqai now looks very old while it's X-Trail rangemate lacked style from the beginning hasn't aged anywhere near as fast. I suppose that's fashion.

I wonder if the likes of Jaguar, Audi etc can keep their SUVs desirable and evolve at the same time? The Range Rover has managed it by not conforming to the styling of any era and just being a Range Rover, the crossovers are pretty much all "of their time".

Actually I googled that few days back due discussion about Giulia wagon. The BMW chart was from '14 or '15, but the wagon counted 55% of 3-series sales in Germany. And in finland I think it's more like 80%. I mean fe in our company parking lot ~70% of cars are wagons or hatchbacks. About 10% SUV:s/crossovers and perhaps 20% sedans.

To get one of these I think I'd like owning you need to spend £45-50k - which is a bit mad really - especially when the XC60 T8 isn't a great deal more and is in a class above size and sector wise (not to mention the 4xx BHP!)...

They'll probably sell loads.

Just been to see it in the metal - have to say it does look very nice. Does need big wheels though - 21 were on the car I saw which suited it well, would like to see it in basic spec as well as a comparison.

A pedestrian safety feature has been available on the Discovery Sport since launch. I assume this is the same design or evolution of it.

All surface progress control is an excellent feature. I experienced it on a Discovery Sport at Eastnor castle about ten days ago. It was very impressive on steep slippery slopes and surfaces.

I imagine that it will sell well and could easily be capacity constrained at the Austrian plant that will build it.
Yes, this is based on the Disco Sport platform so must be.

This is one of the most unethusastically written reviews I have read in a long time, coupled with the unbearable use of the word apperently every other sentence I can safely assume this guy is not that interested in his job any more to which point I offer my services in replacement to his, as I would gladly give up my engineering job to write about cars every day!

Where do I sign?
