Mum had one of these. We lived on a main road in a Scottish village that connected Aberdeen to Inverness.

Several times during the uber mileage it racked up over its lifetime with us we had people identify the house where we lived due to them knowing the car and where it was parked. Bizarre the first time, after that you used it as a way point in getting to know you conversation....

Morris Mini
Austin Mini
Hillman Avenger
Hillman Hunter
Fiat 900t camper
Peugeot 504 Estate - loved that car - changed the head gasket when I was 14yo
Alfa 33 - when I was 17, so was put on insurance - started my love of Alfa's
MG Montego - hugely entertaining for a 20yo at the time and my benchmark was (own car at the time) Audi 80 Quattro
Montego Estate - handled great for a run-of-the-mill estate car.
Peugeot 405 Estate - as above, but sardine can compared with 504
Mondeo Estate

The cars i remember... combo of Mum and Dad's cars, who both kept cars a long time.

BMW 325 (e30)
Tickford Capri (had to be taken away on a low-loader as it was rotten)
2.8 Capri - white with red go-faster stripes
XR3i
XR4x4 Estate
BMW 535 - stolen from a petrol station in Gants Hill - Dad left keys in car to pay.
BMW 540 - both company cars
Vauxhall Frontera - bloody horrible, horrible thing... Dad kept it for 300k miles until it died.
Honda Civic Jordan
Suzuki Baleno GS (i inherited and subsequently wrote off 3weeks later)
Not a bad line up. Must of been a cool dad. I don't know why but I've always been a fan of the baleno. I think we should have a "what car do you have or could realistically afford that you would pass on to your children"

i think they had a Renault 10 when I was born, that got replaced by an 1000 Mazda Familia? Dad didn't like that and thinks all Mazdas are like it, 40 odd years on. Then he got a Renault 16 TS then a long, long list of Skodas:

S110L
120LS
120LE
130L
136LX
136LS
136LS
X2 Felicias
and currently on their 3rd Fabia, which is quite a nice car.

When I was very young, we had a Vauxhall Viva and a white mk1 Escort Mexico. I don't really remember the Viva but I do the Escort. I remember somebody running into the back of it once while I was in the back with my sister. My parents were safety conscious so we had belts in the back, orange Britax ones I think. The car was repaired.

Dad bought a new Mk1 Cavalier in 1977 to replace the Viva and then in 1979 he bought Mum a new Mini 1000 to replace the Escort. The Ford had a large hole in the top of the front wing at this point. The Cavalier was Jamaica Yellow and the Mini Java Green. In the early 80s I was being a pest driving these around the drive.

A second hand E-Type arrived in 1984 and the Cavalier then went to a friend of my Dad. The Mini was then getting too small for us 3 kids in the back, so that was sold privately and replaced by a new 1984 MK1 Astra 1.6S GL. The Astra was the car I ended up using when I passed my test.

The Jag was quite often away for work so a 1976 Triumph Stag arrived to share duties in about 1985. The Stag also proved a bit unreliable, a 1987 Honda CRX was purchased. My Dad didn't really seem to care to much about his cars, so by this time the Jag and Stag were pretty rough, he spent the money on them mechanically but always hammered them and never cared about the body work. I don't think he ever washed them, I did that.

The Jag was sold privately to a drunk Russian in the earlier 90s, it has not been taxed since. The Stag was swapped for a 1986 Opel Monza GSE and the CRX sold privately.

Around this time the Astra had covered about 200,000 miles and the floor was rusting out because of a poorly replaced windscreen which leaked water. It was sold and replaced by a second hand Mk3 Cavalier 2.0GLi which went like a rocket and end it's life when my sister crashed it into her friends house and bent the A pillar.

Fiesta RS Turbo - White - mental car which was never driven faster than 60mph (other than when I could "borrow it")
A new Fiesta every 4-5 years from Mid nineties until the present day - maximum of 3k miles per year

We also had for several months a Bristol Beaufighter parked in a garage (we used it occasionally) This was late eighties/before I moved down to London - Was being held as collateral for a debt somebody owed - was handed back once their "cash flow situation" was resolved.

Coolest one of the lot was a Purple Dolomite Sprint. Could be my memory playing tricks on me but I would swear it was broken down for the whole 6 months he had it. laugh

First I remember was an orange Austin 1100, COL 120K. This was the last of several 1100s my dad bought. In 1975 he part ex-d for an Allegro, which he hated but after 9 months was pretty worthless to the BL dealer who sold it, so my dad went down the road to a new Datsun dealership (Henry Garner), who it seemed would take anything in exchange to sell new cars.

Datsun 100A - LVP 43P
Datsun Cherry - AOG 153T
Datsun Cherry - KOA 305W
Nissan Cherry - ROK 71Y
Nissan Cherry - B339 PDH
Nissan Cherry - C199 KUK
Nissan Micra - F498 AOL
And a few more afterwards once I'd left home.

Two cars stand out for me my dad owned in the mid-80s;

1983 A reg Audi Coupe 2.2 GT (great car but leather seats on a hot day going to/from school in shorts was not nice)
1987 Ford Sierra Sapphire (some people thought it was a Cosworth!)

Would buy an Audi Coupe if I won the lottery.

The earliest car I remember my Mum and Dad owning was a red Vauxhall Cavalier MK2 SRI. Probably quite a cool little car back then.

Next was a Rover 820 Automatic fastback with beige leather and wood trim interior. Always seemed to have something wrong with it this one. I remember the auto box being troublesome.

After that was a Rover 620 Automatic with the 2.0l 16v Honda engine. The only car they ever bought from new and it was a fantastic car that never went wrong in over 10 years of ownership and very minimal servicing. it took quite a bit of abuse from us kids and my Mum. It was still on the original cam belt when got rid of too...

a pale blue corsair , after he started a business VW bay window vans which we used to go on holiday in

My sister and I would get scooped up in the mattress and put in the back at 4am , when we woke up we were on holiday

Much less stress for my parents than having us puking into carrier bags all the way there

I did wake up in mid air once due to some evasive action on the motorway

The first I can remember was a blue Ford Corsair in the early 70s.

That was traded in for an orange Allegro about 1975.
