Notes from the road - Audi A5
Discussion
I have an older B8 A5 (served a purpose at the time) and agree on many points with respect to the newer model, as mentioned that bloody stuck on screen looks terrible, have it all in the virtual cockpit. To be honest, apart from some of the hotter Audi,'s and that is debatable, they don't really drive that well, pretty numb experience. My son has an A1, with 1.4TFSI manual, that is a bit of fun once you get it going..
Just seems like Audi are just churning them out and have lost all consideration for the driver to have a good time. I would maybe caveat that with the R8.. Maybe those driving the new S models have a different opinion?

It was shockingly awful in every regard.
No it wasn't.A shame really as it'd otherwise have been an interesting read were it not for the fact you make it patently obvious that you ideologically despise it before you'd even opened the door.
I do not like the Audi A5 either. I don't like how it looks like a purposeful coupe and is fitted with a miserable 4 cylinder diesel engine. I don't like how it's S-LINE S-LINE S-LINE everywhere. I don't like the bling. I will never buy one, ever.
But it clearly isn't 'shockingly awful in every regard' is it? Is there a single car on sale today that is genuinely such a thing?

I haven't driven an Audi since my '84 UR quattro but hold no prejudice to Audi and actually look at A5 / 7 and R8 and think 'maybe one day'. I still found this review amusing and take it for what it is.A shame really as it'd otherwise have been an interesting read were it not for the fact you make it patently obvious that you ideologically despise it before you'd even opened the door.

Audi have lost their way somewhat from a petrolheads point of view and a bit of ribbing is to be welcomed.

Re: the interior...
They're really quite lovely cars inside so I'm not sure what was wrong with yours*.
*Probably nothing but it is bhy-bhface PH where anything Audi is st and wk and crap.
Audi make some excellent cars. They also churn out a load of ste as well. This is in the latter category. They're really quite lovely cars inside so I'm not sure what was wrong with yours*.

You billed this as a series of straightforward, honest, unbiased car reviews, but there are some very strong claims about Audi's modus operandi here that seem to have strayed over the boundary between fact and opinion.
Entirely fair. I just got a bit carried away there. Thing is, so need to write these on the hoof - mainly because when I get Home I'm just too tired. I quite like the idea of doing them in real time.

Is the way Audi spec cars different in different countries or are they all a bit blingy? Or should I say, do Audi (and possibly others) bling the cars up for the UK?
Based on no data or evidence whatsoever and relying on pure, senseless prejudice, I'd say yes. I bet they laugh at us too when coming up with extra Brent to flog over here.
Or something.
I think the addition of pulsating indicator lights have encouraged the non-indicator brigade (the majority of Audi owners..) to now indicate. You know, because it's 'bling' now...
The problem with Audi is that there are two very decent brands using the same parts/engines/chassis etc. At a considerable saving - Skoda and SEAT.
Imagine for a while if BMW owned Hyundai. Can you imagine a RWD coupe that was 95% BMW but built in South Korea and had a Hyundai badge? And then put on for sale for £22,995 where the equivalent BMW up for £28,995.
Now I'm not going to ask PH which they would choose as there as many badge snobs on here than in real life, but realistically the above is Audis downfall.

Had a diesel Auto in Denmark as a hire car recently, fortunately it had small wheels and actual suspension rather than the suspension delete option which is compulsory when the car is ordered with the S line badges.
My thoughts were that it was very quiet and relaxing to drive, but driving in Denmark is easy, light traffic, good roads and very few idiots.
I imagine the relaxing ride would change if it was crashy and there were lots of morons to circumnavingate
I found the seats were quite squishy, especially the back support and found myself slowly emerging forwards out of the upright of the seat after backing off from a quick stomp on the right pedal.
I had the car for two days ( it had virtual cockpit) and still couldn't work out the screens fully enough to stop it cancelling the nav whenever I did something else on the centre screen.
However one of the good things about it was you can set the nav on both and have a zoomed in map on one for the next turn, and a zoomed out map on the other for an overview and planning.
