This question is open to interpretation as to what you define as a 'proper' car but I mean what was the first car that you thought 'yes, I've finally got something I really want'. This could be a humble Ford Fiesta XR2 or a 911.

How old were you, what car was it and what was the story?

I would say my first 'proper' car was a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX. I was 25 and it was my first introduction to a turbo performance car.

Age 20 - MK4 Golf R32.

Nearly bankrupted me, but as a young 'un it was an absolute dream to own one.

Aged 26, car number 4. Porsche 944 2.7 Lux. Great handling/steering/grunty performance. Oh and flared aches & pop-up lights biggrin Had my midlife crisis early! Checked up on it recently via the online mot checker and its still running around with a clean bill of health. Superb car.

My first ever car, a 1962 Mini Minor with an Austin 1300 engine and Cosmic alloys at age 17 and bought with the proceeds from selling my RD50. smile

More recently, the M3 I always wanted as a 40 something.

Nissan 200sx - think I was 19 or 20

Car was £2k due to be Cat C. Realised a while later it still had some issues as a result which was a shame, but when it was going just right it was great fun

Ok lads, thread over, he's won.

Personally, I'd say my C30 that I have now (I'm 19). It's my second car, and compared to the Corsa I had before it's just a much nicer way to get around, and I find the diesel torque useful for daily driving. Also, I can reasonably describe it as a shooting brake, and who doesn't like a shooting brake!?

My Rover 200 Coupe, bought just two months shy of ten years after passing my test. It was a car that I really wanted and had done so before I had even started learning to drive.

After a k10 Micra and a diesel 205, I thought I'd made it when a month before my 21st I bought a 4 year old IS200 with styling kit and 18s. At the time they hadn't got cheap enough to be chav'd up and drifted so it was still quite special. I lived it and kept it for 8 years.

I think you're running a very close second MD wink

I'd say my first proper car; a car I really enjoyed driving, just for driving was a Nova GTE that I had back in 92. But I also enjoyed the 86 Escort 1.6 Ghia that I owned previously. The little Nova though was proper sporty compared to the 'scort.
