RE: Toyota Yaris GRMN: Driven
Discussion
Corolla T Sport Compressor, yup.
It had a 1.8 VVLTi Supercharged Engine, 217bhp IIRC.
I drove one for a few weeks when I worked for Toyota back in the day, felt pretty gutless below 5000 rpm considering the supercharger.
I assume this is not the same engine, as the old one maxed at over 8000 rpm and redlined about 8500.
The supercharger did very little in the Corolla as the T Sport without it had 190bhp!

Sounds pretty good. It's going to be a joy to drive hard. Shame the Track wasn't dry though.

Blah, blah, blah. Why didn't they chuck this engine in the GT86 and GRMN that instead.
Its an I4 not a boxer, it's not in partnership with Subaru...... both pretty good reasons from what I can see. [quote]
[quote]Toyota's stated objective for the car is clear and concise: for it to be the lightest, fastest and most powerful car in its class

Surely a tiny bit annoying for the outgoing Fiesta ST to be 27kg heavier with lots of tuning potential to easily reach these power numbers.
I just think it would be more attractive if it wasn't the best part of £10k more expensive, and then that would encourage them to make more. Then again do you reckon this will be Mugen-esque in that it'll hold its price really well?

Limited run of 100.
No doubt it'll sell out and I am not expecting any on the used market for 'cheap'. That's crazy limited, half tempted myself as someone above has said to flip for a profit.
Great example of a manufacturer having fun with something. As the article said, it shouldn't exist.
It is a homologation exercise only basically. The price is what it is, £20k years back for an ep3 or £27k today. sounds about right for inflation etc.
Those chirping that it's too much and has ruined it for them, remember it's not a modern day starlet turbo/glanza etc. It's a limited 100 run. Very limited. The fact they've even done it should be commended. A big 'FU' to the swathes of other hot hatches on the market which are all pretty much indiscernible.

A sort of modern day R53 Cooper S Works GP thenNo doubt it'll sell out and I am not expecting any on the used market for 'cheap'. That's crazy limited, half tempted myself as someone above has said to flip for a profit.

I'm not sure the Yaris, the Gazoo brand or the whole of Toyota have enough of an enthusiast / fanboy / cult status to pull off an expensive limited run car like this in the UK. It's not like it's a limited production Porsche that speculators cream themselves to get. Looks like a proper job though and kudos to Toyota for running with it. Let's hope they start making heated up versions of their other cars without the huge mark up, though they could do with a whole new design team first!
