The issue is, that we live on a very densely populated island and most people want peace and quite rather than the sound of noisy bikes, or noisy anything else for that matter.
That's why I head to quiet roads for enjoyment. I don't want to ride in amongst cars and other traffic as much as I don't want to disturb the peace with my noise. I would encourage other enthusiasts to do the same, and enjoy the roads safely and in a responsible fashion.

I notice quite a bit of anti-motorbike sentiment on PH these days, not just directed at aholes on st 125's and knackered off roaders. They're the perfect antidote to anyone who feels as though they can't find the right time and place to stretch out a modern car to the point where it becomes enjoyable. They're fun to ride, and always far more involving than a car. You don't need to blitz it to have fun, and real exotica is comparatively cheap.

Forum thread highlights that bikers with illegally loud exhausts really annoy the general population.
Bikers defend their use as a safety precaution.
Others point out that their use is nevertheless illegal.
Bikers then state that no-one has complained.
Unbelieveable.
Don't fit illegal race-type cans and bikers wouldn't get such a bad reputation from the public.
Don't give it the beans in built-up areas.
We can't complain to you as we have no idea who you are, we are often a long way distant but are still inflicted with your racket.
The law exists to prevent a small minority disrupting the lives of the majority.
Why can't you see that illegally loud bikes, especially when used at high revs in built-up areas is anti-social behavior?

hmmm or in other news.. some whinging bds don't read the original thread and then use it as a place to moan about noise coming from exhausts.. WTF are these people doing on a forum originally set up for TVR owners (probably one of the loudest and best sounding cars on the road - edit: when they work)

There is a lot of very cheap fun to be had, wringing out a small capacity bike (or car for that matter...)

For a small ~200cc bike, riding on the rev limit everywhere - at legal speeds I might add - getting great shifts times perfectly, flowing and maintaining momentum as much as possible.. it's joyous!

Having ridden bikes for many years, I totally get both sides of this. I empathise with the OP, bikes used irresponsibly are a menace, there are a lot of dick heads that ride bikes, probably because they're so accessible from a cost point of view.

Loud pipes on a bike owned and ridden by a responsible rider really aren't an issue, as has been said if you select the right gear, obey the speed limits and be respectful in built up areas, you're not going to piss anyone off.

Ride like a dick, actively trying to draw attention to yourself because you feel cool, thrashing it around a town in low gears is going to piss people off.

Not all bikers are the same, so please don't pigeon hole us.

First time I agree with anything you've said smile -

Illegally loud bikes, high revs or not shouldn't be on the road.

Legally loud bikes ridden irresponsiblly are a nuisance and dangerous. I think knobhead the same as non riders.

Legally loud bikes ridden through built up areas responsibly might still be annoying to others. However, tough st. Not because I'm selfish and don't care, but because it's legal.

I imagine the OP has given up on this thread. It's gone off topic and should probably be locked.

Update.
Police got back to me and said "sorry for the delay I have been on holiday"

"I'm afraid that off road bikes are not a priority when more urgent jobs are waiting for officers to deal with them."

Not sure where off road came from.

"Please can you call 101 every time this happens so we can keep a log. Thank you"

Wasting my time. I said I will deal with the problem myself (not sure how hey but perhaps they will worry about me going mad and kicking someone off a bike....which I won't)

Wouldn't it be lovely if they had the same lackadaisical approach to catching people doing 45mph in a 40mph limit?

Well that's a crap response. Definitely try the local newspaper or media, and I would dial 101 everytime, either they will actually come out and deal with it, or at least it will be recorded for when the inevitable crash / injury happens, hopefully just the rider is involved.
